Electronic Design Engineer - Battery Management Systems

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be onsite approximately monthly.
The Electronic Design Engineer for Battery Management Systems owns the design and analysis of the various Battery Management System components within the Battery Electronics team's portfolio covering all of GM's Electric Vehicle (EV) programs. This role requires supporting the Design Release Engineers (DREs) to ensure their components are designed and built with quality in time to meet the development milestones of the programs, including the electrical and PCB mechanical hardware and analysis deliverables, thermal evaluations, hardware testing and debugging, and issue resolution.
List of Responsibilities
- Perform and evaluate Worst Case Analysis (WCA)
- Lead physical hardware testing
- Conduct supplier hardware design reviews of electrical schematics and PCB layout
- Develop and evaluate thermal analysis models
- Capture and institutionalize lessons learned and improvement opportunities across multiple programs
- Lead the investigation and resolution of hardware related problems
- Design and execute component, RESS, and vehicle level tests to root cause issues
- Execute cost reduction efforts for current programs
- Lead cross-functional efforts to evaluate and improve system level BMS performance
- Support supplier and GM internal DFMEA
- Support the development of Advanced products ahead of program execution
- Support the packaging of BMS components internal to the RESS
- Support development of wireless communication hardware interfaces
- Support technical specifications development, including component level and system level
- Support component validation and EMC test plan development
Additional Description
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. (other related engineering degrees may be considered)
- 2+ years of work experience in the design, development, validation, or release of electronic automotive components
- Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with suppliers in different time zones
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- Must be willing and able to build and present information to leadership, peers, customers, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner
- Experience with Circuit Analysis, Statement of Requirements, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and Design Reviews
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of work experience in the design, development, validation, or release of electronic automotive components
- Experience with Electric Vehicle and hybrid systems
- Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) schematic and layout entry
- Experience with electronics testing, development, and manufacturing
