Description
Caterpillar is developing machines with advanced electric drive powertrains. A key part of these powertrains are the controls and software for the motors, generators and powertrain systems. As an Electric Drive Controls and Software Engineer you will be responsible for designing new control algorithms and implement these algorithms. You will work with system engineers and controls engineers to understand the requirements for the controls. The controls will be implemented in model base design or C code on our embedded controllers. You will work with our HIL team to verify the software before it goes out to the field. In some cases you will participate in the on machine validation of the controls and software at the proving grounds. Data from field machines will be reviewed to resolve issues and define resolution.
Job Duties
Gather requirements for controls and software
Implement control algorithms using model based design or C code
Collaborate with the HIL team to verify the controls and software
Complete software related documentation
Participate in controls and software validation in test cells and on machine
Analyze field data to resolve filed issues
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
5+ year experience in embedded software development
Experience with model based design
Experience with C code
Experience with GIT configuration management tool
Top Candidates will also have
Experience with software debugging tools
Understanding of functional safety requirements
Experience with electric machine controls and power electronics hardware
Experience with HIL systems
Understanding of Caterpillar machine performance
Experience with Vector CANape and CANanalyzer
Experience with CAT ET
Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment
Excellent problem-solving capabilities
Excellent communication skills
