SB Nation is looking for a talented and creative Editorial Engineer to work directly with the vast SB Nation editorial team. You will have the opportunity to work on the next iteration of our digital presence, from impactful features, newsletters and editorial interfaces, to games, interactive storytelling elements, and more, reaching our audience of millions around the world.

Since we were founded in 2005, SB Nation has invested in design and interactive storytelling to bring our journalism to life. Our Editorial Engineer will be embedded in our editorial team as part of our product team, and will collaborate closely with our editors, writers, and designers to launch even more ambitious storytelling products than ever before.

The ideal candidate will help enhance our storytelling through creative uses of code on both a site and story basis. As we grow, there will be an opportunity to grow with us and develop products within our core journalism offerings.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Collaborate and communicate with designers, reporters and editors in identifying and executing the best visual opportunities for our stories.
• Work closely with our designers to build innovative and impactful features.
• Work closely with designers to explore new tooling and capabilities.
• Ensure stories are functional and high performing across a variety of devices and distribution platforms (Apple News, etc).
• Ensure stories meet best practices in relation to Core Web Vitals and accessibility.
• Interface with centralized product leads, designers and engineers.
• Pitch, research, and create unique data-driven stories.
• Be a strong voice for moving storytelling beyond text.
• Use code to produce interactive and experimental journalism.
• Experiment with new methods of visual storytelling and aesthetics, and surprise us with new ways of looking at things. 
• Mentors designers and members of our team interested in learning CSS and Sass.

WHO YOU ARE

• Expertise with HTML, CSS and JS
• Experience with web page performance, accessibility, and responsive user experiences
• Experience working  in content management systems
• Experience with static site generators
• Familiarity with common frameworks
• Experience with versioning tools such as Git
• Genuine curiosity and love about tech, sports, and the way they relate to the average person
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work and collaborate with a team remotely
• Great documentation skills
• An appreciation of the balance between strong convictions and pragmatic engineering

Bonus points for:

• Experience working with journalists
• Being a big sports fan
• An enthusiasm on subjects that might include typography, lazy-loading, privacy, caching, or obscure CSS selectors
