Director - Software Engineering Architecture

The Purpose of This Role

Your work as a member of the Fidelity Cloud Architecture team is essential to the Fidelity Application Architecture (FAA) and Enterprise Cloud Computing (ECC) organizations. You will work hands on with ECC (Enterprise Cloud computing) and Fidelity business partners building outstanding cloud capabilities to accelerate their velocity of value using cloud native technologies. This role is passionate about hands-on development, consulting and delivery, which requires a combination of both strong technical and influencing skills, as well as participation in architecture, consulting, design and analysis activities.

• Focus to advocate and promote cloud engineering best practices, cloud patterns and enterprise cloud services to accelerate the adoption of cloud across Fidelity. Ensuring Success in Cloud!
• Partner with other Fidelity Leaders to build and evolve consistent practices and standards for the specialized skills and expertise of the CoE members.
• Providing technical architecture for multiple complex projects
• Identifying integration patterns and points between design areas across the stack (UI, security, database, etc.)
• Identifying and championing the creation and use of common services and components
• Making authoritative recommendations for technical issues, standards, and strategies
• Anticipating the applicability of major industry trends in the Fidelity environment and implementing plans
• Providing leadership to Proofs of Concept (POCs) for assessment of technical and business benefit
• As a technology leader, you will optimally mentor and motivate the team to continuously upskill and build high quality cloud engineering capability.
• As an integral member of the team, participates in all agile events such as daily meetings, team demos and retrospectives.
• Extract & share learnings from failures

Skills Key to This Role

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a technology related field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) required.
• 15+ years of technology experience, preferably in software development, architecture, or data analysis.
• 3+ years of experience as an architect desired.
• Extensive experience with 2 or more programming languages (Java, Python, Go, JavaScript etc.)
• Professional certification in AWS/Azure/Kubernetes areas will be a plus
• Ability to translate business needs into technology solutions.
• Excellent presentation, documentation, communication and influencing skills, as well as skills for influencing technology direction in business context.
• A track record of critical problem solving and advanced technical troubleshooting to drive resolution to technical issues
• Ability to work closely with Product/Application teams, peer architects, and partner organizations in technology evaluation, selection, recommendation, and configuration.
• Knowledge of APIs, UIs, infrastructure, security, and emerging technologies.
• Experience or certification in Cloud Computing, with AWS and Azure preferred
• Thought leadership in recommending strategic technology options and technology product strategy
• Extensive experience working in public cloud. (AWS and/or Azure)
• Strong exposure & worked in Application & Database migrations from On-Prem to public cloud.
• Knowledge in Docker and Kubernetes
• Ability to translate business needs into technology solutions.

• Ability to drive solutions architecture design, and articulate architecture options to the product owners and architecture leadership.
• Ensure technology decisions align with architecture standards and strategies.
• Evaluate and recommend technology and frameworks for flexibility, long-term viability, and time to market.

Software Architecture is a technical leadership role that has a direct impact in translating a process to a software application and maintaining the long-term evolvability and operability of this software application. In this very important role as a cloud architect the associate will directly impact the products being developed in the cloud COE, by creating.

• A general architectural vision that guides the organization and serves as a basis for mutual understanding between all parties involved in product development.
• Gathering early non-functional requirements.
• Evaluating functional requirements captured by a business analyst.
• Selecting a technology stack and deployment methods.
• Designing a high-level architectural solution.
• Addressing possible risks and constraints
• Delivering detailed architectural blueprints
• Mentoring tech leads and developers
• Setting quality standards and ensuring adherence to them

The Team

As a Director of Technology Architecture, you will be part of Fidelity's Application Architecture Team - defining and driving business and technology solutions being built for implementation through multiple public cloud service providers. You'll work with people from a variety of Fidelity Technology and Business Unit teams to define and build common solutions - platforms, systems, components, software, and standards - that fuel our current and future business objectives.
