Cox2M is a new Internet of Things (IoT) business line venture within Cox Communications established in 2018. About the Role

Join the Product & Technology leadership team of a dynamic, fast paced, venture where you will direct all software and platform development at Cox2M. Cox2M delivers end to end groundbreaking solutions to a diverse set of customers in target verticals such as automotive, smart communities and agriculture. The Product and Technology team is responsible for delivering solutions from conceptualization to launch and post-launch performance, spanning varying hardware, networks, platform and UIs. Your role will own all software, platform and UI development activities, on and offshore. The Director of Software Development is a central Cox2M leader driving the very heart of the Cox2M product and technology development ensuring the Cox2M team can continue to move fast, wow customers and deliver great solutions at scale. This position reports to the Cox2M Head of Product, Technology, and Innovation.

This role requires previous startup experience!

Key Ownership

  • Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of the Cox2M Platform.
  • Manage the implementation of the platform against the overall Cox2M roadmap by leading external, internal, on and offshore teams of developers.
  • Partner with the Director of Hardware to manage device roadmap interdependencies and critical path items for integration to the platform
  • Partner with the Director of Product & Integration to develop a cohesive, cross-vertical roadmap.
  • Partner with the Director of IoT Networks to develop a tightly integrated platform and network strategy to optimize solution delivery
  • Partner with the Head of Product & Technology to identify and progress innovation concepts, introducing them to the business
  • Implement, coach & manage appropriate Agile methodologies and processes
  • Instill a DevOps mentality and help with the implementation of best practices, tools & procedures
  • Establish a robust engineer growth and development strategy, building a progression of junior to senior engineers

Qualifications:

  • Prior start-up experience required
  • 12 or more years of experience as an engineer
  • 5 or more years of experience in an engineering management position
  • 3 years of experience with enterprise web applications - any technical role working on enterprise applications with REST-like or GraphQL API and HTML or native mobile front-end
  • 1 year of experience in each of the following:
    • Pub/Sub Architecture - any technical role working on an enterprise application
    • Enterprise Web APIs - Architect or Technical Lead during design, coding, launch, and support of at least one enterprise consumer
    • Large, high-volume-write warehouses - Architect, Technical Lead, Scalability Engineer, or API Developer for service ingesting 100+ GB of structured data daily
    • Big data processing - Architect, Technical Lead, or Developer for service with batch processing across billions of rows and limited real-time processing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstratable knowledge of software development best practices, cloud architectures, microservices, containerization, and design patterns
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
    • Javascript (node.js, react.js, etc.)
    • Containerized software (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Databases (NoSQL, SQL, and other Cloud DBs)
    • Elasticsearch, Redis
    • DevOps (CI/CD, container automation - Helm)
    • Modern testing approaches

Preferred

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline desired (Engineering, etc.)
  • Experience in telecommunications, automotive, supply chain or high-tech environment
  • Full stack development for IoT Cloud Platforms (GCP or AWS)
