About the job
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Director of Product Documentation and Localization to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will lead a global team of 300 associates to create technically authoritative content for Red Hat customers that spans individual products as well as portfolio solutions, from bare metal to managed services. You will also be responsible for the localization of that content and some product interfaces. Success in the role will be achieved by leading with empathy and high emotional intelligence, having subject matter expertise, and being unafraid to innovate away from traditional approaches, with a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a an exciting and challenging opportunity that requires building relationships with senior leaders and other stakeholders who have a variety of perspectives and opinions, establishing an effective leadership structure for a growing organization, managing many simultaneous priorities across a large and varied product line, and working to continually improve and innovate on the way we develop and deliver technical content to our customers.
What you will do

  • Be accountable for all Red Hat product documentation, including technical content strategy, content development, and content delivery across all Red Hat products and solutions
  • Be accountable for content localization strategy, providing leadership and direction to dedicated localization team, rapidly innovating application of machine translation technologies
  • Be accountable for improving the maturity of the Customer Content Services team with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Provide continuous communication and listen to diverse set of stakeholders, in addition to internal team members, on priorities, progress, successes, and challenges
  • Regularly engage with customer feedback, customer facing teams, and customers themselves to better understand use cases and how well we are meeting customer needs (including leadership of closed loop customer feedback actions)
  • Lead change initiatives to improve and innovate on content development practices and adoption of managed services and other content delivery models
  • Effectively develop next level leaders and adapt organization to meet the demands of a quickly growing and evolving team
  • Collaborate with other content leaders across the company to align on customer experience and effective delivery of product portfolio strategy


What you will bring

  • Deep experience with technical writing practices for enterprise software products
  • Proven commitment to implementing processes that enable the recruitment, retention, and advancement of a diverse workforce
  • Familiarity with localization processes and industry trends, especially around the shift to machine translation
  • Experience leading and building large, global, multicultural teams in a growing organization
  • Empathy, eagerness to learn from others, deep listening skills
  • Passion for communication, transparency, and knowledge sharing
  • Familiarity with open source development concepts is a plus
