We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, FAA DER (Designated Engineering Representative) - (Remote) to join our Engineering Excellence Team overseeing day to day activities required to secure FAA and International Airworthiness approval for Raytheon developed products (Black Boxes, Subsystems, and aircraft modifications) that will be sold to US Military and International Military organizations.

In this role you will work with and present technical reviews to US Government agencies, International Government agencies, US Department of Defense, and International Military organizations using FAA and International Airworthiness Regulations for military hardware and software.

In addition, you will operate as an individual contributor to assist Raytheon in obtaining FAA approvals under the Systems and Equipment Engineering FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) Technical Discipline along with International Airworthiness certifications. You will provide guidance and support to the Raytheon Program teams, Raytheon suppliers, and serve as the Customer's delegated FAA representative. You will also assist the Strategic Business Unit members to develop the DO178 processes, standards, and artifacts with full verification and validation to DO178.

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • Current DoD Secret Security Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance


Required Skills

  • Ability to obtain Airborne Software Safety Certification for software written to DO178
  • Current Systems and Equipment Engineering FAA Company Designated Engineering Representative (DER) appointment in accordance with 14 CFR section 183.29 or a Consultant FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) appointment
  • Extensive aviation engineering experience with the breadth and depth of experience to know overall Airworthiness Authority requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of Quality Control / Quality Assurance, parts receiving, inspection requirements needed in support of certifiable installations (Certificate of Conformity CofC, Airworthiness Approval Tag (8130-3)
  • Comparable activities need to have been accomplished whether done against FAA criteria (14 CFR Part 2X)
  • Extensive experience communicating with multiple levels of Program Management, Program Engineering, Internal / External Sr. Level Stakeholders, and with the applicable Airworthiness Authority
  • Must be able to travel up to 40% (US and OCONUS)


Preferred Skills

  • U.S. military criteria (MIL-HDBK-516C), U.K. MoD criteria (DEF STAN 00-970), or any other mature recognized industry standards
  • Extensive experience as Company FAA DER or FAA DER Consultant (10+ years highly preferred)


Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical field with 12+ years of relevant experience OR
  • Master's Degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical field with 10+ years of relevant experience
