Director of Engineering, Spaces and Paper
Role Description
As the Director of Engineering for Dropbox Paper and Spaces you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of this team, setting technical direction and driving major strategic and product initiatives. You will have significant strategic impact and influence the direction of the company, as well as direct responsibility for new products and those already loved by hundreds of millions of users. You will do this together with an amazing team of talented, passionate engineers and engineering managers including leaders from cross functions. Spaces and Paper are key initiatives in the Office of the CEO and you will be responsible for working with the GM to define and execute on the strategy for making both of these products adopted by millions of users.
As Spaces and Paper are new initiatives driven from the Office of the CEO, engineering in this org will have its own unique culture, technology, and tools focused on 0→1 product development. You will drive the engineering team to adopt and improve on the best from industry leading tools while also leveraging Dropbox’s core engineering capabilities. You will be responsible for balancing business delivery with engineering quality, building plans with strong business acumen and being data and metrics oriented.
Responsibilities
- You will lead the team in balancing urgency vs. the incredibly high quality bar expected by both our customers and the broader Dropbox organization, through clear and repeatable engineering processes
- You will partner closely with Spaces and Paper leadership across all functions, including GTM and Support
- You will work closely with the GM of the Spaces and Paper org and other engineering leaders across the company to set technical strategy and direction
- You will create a culture of strong technical ownership, resulting in highly reliable products and services at scale
- You'll foster a healthy and collaborative culture that embodies Dropbox's values and continue to develop Dropbox as one of the best places to work
Requirements
- 12+ years of engineering experience in a medium or larger software company including 6+ years managing high performance teams
- Demonstrated ability to hire and grow senior leaders and managers
- Strong technical craft mastery and engineering discipline
- Deep organization capabilities, especially in influence, collaboration and communication
- BS degree in a technical or design related discipline (CS preferred)
- Growth or business experience and focus is a plus
- Large scale SaaS cloud application design and management is a plus
