Director of Engineering- Product Platform

About the Role:
The Product Platform team is the backbone of Remitly's remittance business. Our transaction systems process over $12b in (2020) transaction send volume, and we build many of Remitly's core, high-volume product APIs. This team will become a multiplier for product innovation across the company, building on the success of our notification platform, which abstracts away the complexities of sending hundreds of millions of customer notifications across myriad channels.
We're looking for an experienced technical leader, reporting to our VP of Engineering, who can guide and evolve this vision and grow the team in empowering rapid product development across Remitly over the coming years. You'll immediately lead several global teams in establishing mid-term roadmaps to maintain our systems' operational excellence with our continued, rapid business growth. As you become familiar with Remitly's strategic goals as well as our current product development challenges and opportunities, you'll grow and evolve the team's long-term focus to solving these at scale.

You'll lead your teams in delivering incrementally here, demonstrating continued value along the way. You'll need to lead in all directions: in clear business cases and strategy discussions with executives, in roadmaps with partner teams, and in setting context for your teams.
You Will:
- Hire and manage Engineering Managers and Principal/Staff Engineers across global and diverse teams
- Set the direction and roadmap for your teams, and be accountable for quarterly and yearly results
- Partner with VP of Engineering, CTO, and other engineering leaders in evolving and delivering company-wide engineering goals
- Hold an extremely high bar for operational excellence and in your teams' systems
You Have:
- 7+ years of technical leadership experience
- 5+ years of experience managing multiple teams/domains, some global and remote
- Experience hiring Engineering Managers and Senior/Principal Engineers
- Examples of creating and operating platforms and large distributed systems
- Experience working with executives to align technical goals with business goals
