Director of Engineering, New Product Development
Your Impact
As the Director of Engineering, you will lead teams to build and deliver mission-critical features on-time and with a high bar for quality. You will drive the technical vision for your teams, guiding them on architectural decisions and setting a high bar for standards of excellence. You will be joining forces with product management and product design to understand the customer outcomes that need to be achieved, and driving the schedule to achieve success. You will be empowered to build high-performing engineering teams that are customer-obsessed and encompass a strong engineering culture. You will coach the managers under you, grooming the next set of engineering leaders for Axon. If you are successful, you will be on the path to building a differentiating product that will disrupt our industry.
Your Day-to-Day
- Driving the execution of your teams by supporting your managers in leading planning, prioritization, stand-ups, and team retro meetings
- Leading the technical direction of the team through architectural discussions and code reviews
- Working with product managers and product designers to build a disruptive product for emergency responders
- Join forces with recruiting to hire a top-notch engineering team
- Coaching managers and senior engineers with weekly 1:1s
Basic qualifications
We would love to talk to you if you have:
- 10+ years professional software development experience
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams
- 2+ years of experience coaching other engineering managers and leading multiple engineering teams
- Experience designing and delivering high-availability, scalable cloud-based systems
- Deep experience in multiple, managed languages such as Java, Scala, Go, C#, or similar
- Experience working with multiple SQL or NoSQL datastores
- Proven ability for coaching and mentoring
- You love delighting end users and hunger for novel challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- You follow the latest in software engineering and open source technologies, and can intuit the fine line between promising new practice and overhyped fad
