Modern Fertility was acquired by Ro in 2021 to build the women's health platform at Ro, starting with Fertility. Modern Fertility makes reproductive health information and tools more accessible, providing fertility essentials including at-home tests and digital tools like the Modern Community that help people with ovaries have more power over the decisions impacting their bodies and futures. All Modern Fertility offerings are personalized with a unique dataset that is also driving a better predictor of future fertility.


Modern Fertility is looking for an Head of Engineering who will be responsible for architecting the end to end data and product platform for women’s health and growing our engineering team in 2022. The ideal candidate is someone who is energized by mentoring a group of high performing engineers. In this role, you will have eyes on all pieces of Modern Fertility—from architecting scalable platform designs, to launching new experiences and products, ensuring we are prioritizing engineering excellence in everything we build, while doubling our team and output in 2022. You will provide expertise in backend systems, infrastructure, and data engineering. You will collaborate closely with team members all across the company (product, marketing, ops — you name it) and be a key stakeholder in making cross-functional decisions that drive Modern Fertility & all of women’s health at Ro forward.


We have a unique opportunity to expand research and insights in reproductive health with data: we are building personalized data systems from the ground up to make this happen. In this role, you will be a key driver in building a predictor of future fertility and using data to personalize reproductive health tools –– driving better outcomes for our patients.

What You'll Do:

  • Train your team to obsess over the patient experience and translate that into a culture of building patient-first product solutions
  • Rapidly scale the Modern Fertility engineering org alongside product and design leaders in a high growth environment 
  • Obsess about the patient and translate this into a collaborative culture that delivers solutions that create impact 
  • Structure our engineering team to consistently ship high-quality work on time and on budget 
  • Recruit, Interview and hire for our growing team 
  • Influence change and deliver sustainable technical and architectural decisions to improve efficiencies across our systems: Backend data and web services, Cycle and fertility tracking application (currently iOS), eComm front end
  • Act as a bridge between other teams such as Product, Sales, and Operations
  • Advocate for technical engineering excellence and guide career growth development for the engineering team

What You Bring:

  • 8+ years of technical experience and 5+ years of management experience and leading an engineering team focused on building consumer-facing products
  • Highly proficient technical knowledge of current tools and best practices at scale (our apps span web and mobile — we work in Python/Django/React on web and native iOS on mobile)
  • Successful track record of building high performing, healthy, and sustainable teams that addressed increasingly complex technical and organizational challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships across the organization from Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Designers, and Data colleagues
  • Experience understanding the unique career paths of individual engineers and providing guidance and mentorship to help grow their potential and achieve their career goals
  • Ability to lead a startup organization with data-driven results in mind
  • A passion to make reproductive health information more accessible for people everywhere
