What will you do?

Sealed is building a world-class software engineering team and we need you to lead it.  This is a career defining opportunity to build an incredible team of engineers and technologists.  Our software is B2C, B2B and will have multiple points of integration with numerous tools and platforms.  As a Series B company, we plan to grow quickly over the coming years, and your leadership will be critical to that success. Your team will develop on a service-oriented architecture, building exciting applications that make it easy for homeowners to make their living space more comfortable and increase their quality of life. The software you create will allow Sealed to scale to millions of homes. 

Your north star will be a customer experience that can deliver a clean home project without human interaction. In order to meet this challenge, you will work closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and other business stakeholders to prioritize development and determine the best strategies to maximize business value.

As the leader of our Engineering function, first and foremost you are recruiting, hiring and developing a strong, talented and diverse team of software engineers from around the world.  The organization you build must be customer centric, data driven, and highly collaborative partners with Product.  You empower your teams by helping them set clear goals and objectives, support them, and hold them accountable. 

You have the final say on decisions regarding our tech stack, applications, and architecture.  You are viewed as a partner by the rest of the org and accomplish most of your goals through “soft power” strategies to drive alignment across the team. You do this by building trust through active listening and excellent communication skills.

Most importantly, by working diligently and collaboratively, your teams create results. You oversee the creation and launch of new applications and features that evolve processes that haven’t changed in decades. The pace of development accelerates due to intelligent investments in infrastructure and documentation. Your Engineering organization is a shining example of agile development best practices. 

Additional Responsibilities

• Oversee front-end and back-end development teams and their projects
• Monitor reliability and performance of all internal systems to drive improvements
• Ensure compliance with security regulations
• Work with the Head of Product to prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget
• Design strategies for future development projects based on the company’s overall objectives and resources
• Hire excellent engineers and coordinate their training and development
• Coordinate with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools
• Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and equipment
• Oversee company IT department

Requirements

• 5+ years of leading multiple software development teams in agile development environments.
• Extensive experience coordinating large, complex and time-bound projects
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.  You communicate clearly and effectively (both written and IRL) to engineers, CEOs, and everyone in between.
• Backend software engineering experience, with at least 2 years of experience at a high growth Seed, Series A or Series B company
• Experience building software applications for home services, fintech or cleantech industries 
• A strong understanding of multiple programming languages including Scala, Java, and/or Python
• Experience developing within a service-oriented architecture
• Experience building infrastructure to run, monitor, and optimize data pipelines
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Kubernetes, Docker, Pub/Sub, Firebase, CircleCI

• Experience designing and maintaining schema and documentation for relational and document-oriented databases

This role reports to the VP of Product, who oversees product, design, engineering and data science teams.
