Director, Engineering - Compute
The Compute group is responsible for the high scale multi-cloud container based compute environment supporting all of Datadog. As the engineering leader responsible for this area, your domain is broad, including cloud provider account and relationship management, Linux systems engineering, distributed systems software engineering, and systems engineering focused on scalability, reliability, and security. Your group offers a Kubernetes based PaaS, along with tools and systems to enable users working in a large multi-cluster environment.
It is your responsibility to ensure that this platform enables the engineering community at Datadog to work efficiently and safely. You’ll find yourself in a unique position to drive major infrastructure growth initiatives that will influence top line revenue growth by opening new sales channels and markets.
We believe strongly in dogfooding; you will have the opportunity to pilot new products and influence roadmaps across the organization based on your experience.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do:
- You’ll manage a team of 40 engineers and managers and help facilitate rapid growth of that group to meet your users needs.
- You’ll manage the infrastructure side of complex relationships with external partners, including capacity planning and infrastructure growth initiatives.
- You’ll work with peers and users across the engineering organization to understand the unique environment we operate in, acting as the lead product manager for your domain.
Who You Are:
- You’ve led large engineering teams, ideally in the cloud native infrastructure space.
- You’ve managed other managers and helped mentor the next generation of leaders.
- You have experience working with at least one, but ideally multiple, large scale modern infrastructures, and understand what patterns worked well from each.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:
- Your team will grow fast, and you’ll have an opportunity to level up your management skills to help facilitate that growth.
- You’ll have a meaningful impact on Datadog’s business; we regularly hear about our large initiatives in earnings calls and investor materials.
- You’ll occupy a very influential position in the engineering organization, helping establish patterns from the infrastructure level that propagate through the software stack.
