Red Hat is rethinking how the automobile industry uses software in cars. The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for an experienced Director of Engineering from the automotive industry to join us in North America (NA) or Europe. In this role, you will coordinate work with other engineers, architects, product managers, business stakeholders, and community members to create Red Hat's first ever offering of Linux for cars. As a Director of Engineering you will be managing a team from around the globe to build a new in-vehicle operating system. What you will do
- Provide leadership, direction, and delivery of Red Hat's new automotive offering
- Work with other executives to define strategy and long-term vision for Red Hat Edge computing plans
- Manage a team of engineers and other managers mostly in NA and Europe
- Coordinate with other counterparts in the program like Quality Engineering, Legal, Documentations, and other teams
- Take a new in-vehicle Linux operating system to market
- Regularly meet with partners and customers
- Track and understand industry trends in the automotive and edge spaces
- Travel as needed to speak at conferences, other industry events, or with customers and partners, following Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines
What you will bring
- Ability to manage a team of 50 to 100 people distributed across several locations
- Great verbal and written communication skills, especially in terms of complicated technical topics
- 5+ years of recent experience developing in-vehicle solutions
- Familiarity with software development life cycle for automotive software
- Proven ability to adapt to rapidly changing plans like strategy and industry changes
- Experience negotiating with partners, vendors, or customers, including chip manufacturers, tier 1-level executives, and automakers
The following are considered a plus:
- Experience working with Linux or a real time operating system (RTOS) platform
- Experience with containers
- Understanding of AUTOSAR, Android Automotive, or related frameworks
- Understanding of functional safety requirements surrounding ISO 26262 and automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) A-D certifications
