Job Description

As director of Ecommerce engineering you will lead the implementation of automated material handling equipment in our distribution center operations. Typical equipment includes carton conveyor and sortation, automated picking systems (RF, Voice, Pick to Light), automated storage and retrieval systems, unit loop sorter systems, parcel loop sorter systems.

  • Provides equipment and process engineering expertise and leadership at new distribution centers where automated material handling equipment from one or more vendors is being implemented.
  • Responsible for leading work streams related to the deployment of highly-automated material handling systems.
  • Manages the automated equipment vendors to ensure that equipment and software meet the required schedule, functionality, rate, and quality in the as contracted requirements. Leads automated equipment testing across multiple project phases.
  • Areas of responsibility include: data analysis, business case creation, equipment cost estimating, equipment layout, equipment evaluation, process productivity modeling and estimates, vendor management, project management, equipment punch-listing, warehouse control system software integration and testing, equipment flow control design, equipment functionality and rate testing, operations start up training, query and report development.
  • Leads a small team of on-site process and equipment support engineers across multiple sites.
  • Supports the distribution center operations team in learning and optimizing the use of the automated equipment.
  • Stays up to date on new distribution equipment technologies and best practices across sectors.
  • Develops process and equipment solution options to meet customer requirements, improve productivity, reduce cycle time, decrease cost.
  • Operates in matrix environment and is an effective partner with numerous other functional groups to deliver results to the customer.
  • Selects and manages use of external vendors and contractors for engineering and maintenance-related projects.
  • Maintains key stakeholder alignment through use of strong Project Managementand Communication skills

  • Prior experience implementing automated unit / case handling equipment
  • Data analysis using excel, access, SQL, power BI
  • MOST / MTM labor modeling
  • PLC equipment control
  • CAD for equipment layout
  • Project management
  • Warehouse control systems (WCS)
  • Warehouse management systems (WMS)

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field, with particular emphasis on Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Facilities, and/or Maintenance Engineering, required
  • 7+ years of experience in distribution or manufacturing engineering, with particular emphasis on Ecommerce Fulfillment implementation projects or engineering management, required
  • 3+ years of project management experience for automated material handling equipment or building implementation, required

Addendums:

For Dallas - Fort Worth / Carhartt

Location

This position will support distribution center projects in Northwest Dallas-Fort Worth TX area. For candidates who are local to that area, the position will have 10-30% travel to support other sites outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As an alternate option candidates could also be located in the Columbus OH area near other DHL supply chain distribution sites but will be required to travel >50% to support the projects in Dallas TX.

For Atlanta / ASOS

Location

This position will support distribution center projects in the Union City area of Atlanta GA. For candidates who are local to that area, the position will have 10-30% travel to support other sites outside that area. As an alternate option candidates could also be located in the Columbus OH area near other DHL supply chain distribution sites but will be required to travel >50% to support the projects in the Atlanta area.

For Columbus / TJX

Location

This position will support distribution center projects in the Groveport and Rickenbacker areas of Columbus OH. Candidates should be located in the Columbus area. As part of the role, the position will have 10-30% travel to support other sites outside the Columbus area.
