The Electronics and Sensors Division (ESD) is a world-class engineering and scientific leader in electronics and remote sensing systems. The Digital and Integrated Circuit Electronics Department (DICED) resides within ESD and supports the design, modeling, simulation, verification, analysis, and test for microelectronics and digital electronic boards, boxes, subsystems, and systems for civil, commercial, and national space systems. Our expertise, combined with sophisticated in-house laboratories, rapid prototyping, and extensive modeling and simulation capabilities, enables DICED to deliver innovative solutions to national space systems and civil customers.
What You'll Be Doing
In this position you will work with our circuit design team and support our customers to optimize the design and development of digital and mixed-signal circuits and systems. Tasks will include design, analysis, modeling, simulation, and characterization of high-speed digital and mixed-signal circuits.
- Perform requirements development, electrical design, system integration, verification & validation, and risk assessments for space electronic systems
- Develop and execute analysis and test plans to validate signal and interface integrity
- Leverage the use of state-of-the-art high-speed digital and microelectronic technology and design best practices
- Perform Worst Case Analysis (WCA) and Assessment of Critical Timing Relationships (WCTA) on Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) designs
- Lead failure investigation processes
- Provide written reports on electronic design project status and results, brief the customers and management on project status/results, and provide end of week reports
- Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering or another related field
- At least eight years of experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree
- Experience with the full design and development cycle of space flight high-speed digital and mixed-signal systems: from concept to on-orbit operation: board/unit/sub-system/system level
- Familiarity with signal integrity simulation tools
- Solid background on transmission line theory and in-depth knowledge of electromagnetics, PCB layout, and package layout techniques
- Familiarity with signal integrity simulation and analysis tools
- Experience with lab measurements using oscilloscopes, TDRs, VNAs, and spectrum analyzers
- Familiarity using SPICE or equivalent analog circuit simulation tool
- Self-motivated, teamwork, and good communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent design and analysis projects
- Ability to document projects in technical reports, presentations/briefs, and report findings to the customer and Aerospace management
- Willing to travel domestically up to 25%
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance that is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Eight or more yearsof increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience since obtaining a bachelor's degree, including experience in high-speed digital design, development, and implementation
- Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent digital, integrated circuit, and mixed-signal electronics projects
- Familiarity of board-level and component-level radiation testing
- Firm understanding of transmission line theory and electromagnetic field concepts
- Demonstrated ability to use signal integrity simulation and analysis tools
- Demonstrated ability using SPICE or equivalent analog circuit simulation tool
- Familiarity of high-speed digital communications, space payload electronics, command and data handling systems, and digital signal processing
- Current Secret or Top-Secret clearance with SSBI or periodic reinvestigation completed within the last five years that resulted in clearance granted or maintained
Qualifications for consideration as a Senior Engineering Specialist
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering or another related discipline
- Minimum of twelve years of relevant experience in designing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of digital and mixed-signal electronic systems well as successful verification of final designs
- Experience with signal integrity analysis and verification and validation methods
- Extensive experience in multilayer, mixed-signal PCB layout
- Familiarity using SPICE or equivalent analog circuit simulation tool
- Demonstrated ability to lead small teams in the design, development, test, and verification of digital and microelectronic hardware
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent design and analysis projects
- Ability to document projects in technical reports, presentations/briefs, and report findings to the customer and Aerospace management
- Willing to travel domestically up to 25%
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance that is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Advanced degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering or another related discipline
- Twelve or more yearsof relevant working experience with space digital and microelectronic hardware design, development, test, and verification
- Proficiency in mixed-signal analog design (active filters, precision current drives, data converter support circuitry) and simulation
- Knowledge of radiation effects on space components and experience with radiation- hardening techniques, testing, and analysis
- Experience with Fault and Risk Management and troubleshooting (Failure Analysis): troubleshooting and investigating component anomalies and failures, performing root-cause analysis, and providing resolution
- Demonstrated ability using SPICE or equivalent analog circuit simulation tool
- Extensive experience with space qualification of electrical components
- Expert knowledge of high-speed digital design best practices, including signal integrity
- Current Secret or Top-Secret clearance with SSBI or periodic reinvestigation completed within the last five years that resulted in clearance granted or maintained
