About BlueLabs

BlueLabs is a leading provider of analytics services and technology for a variety of industry clients: including government, business, and political campaigns. We help our clients optimize their engagements with individual customers, supporters, and stakeholders to achieve their goals. Simply put: we help our partners do the most good by getting the most from their data.

Today, our team of data analysts, scientists, engineers, and strategists come together from diverse backgrounds to share a passion for using data to solve the world's greatest social and analytical challenges. We've served more than 400 organizations ranging from government agencies, advocacy groups, unions, political campaigns, international groups, and companies. Along the way, we've developed some of the most innovative tools available in analytics, media optimization, reporting, and influencer outreach-- serving a diverse set of industries, including the automotive, travel, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, healthcare, media, telecom, and more.

The Team:

The BlueLabs Civic Technology practice revolutionizes the way government agencies use data to streamline operations, interact with citizens, and react to their biggest challenges. Our team develops deep expertise within the areas our clients care about most, then builds data analytics systems that create impact at scale. We work closely with internal government innovation groups, and build on the analytics methodology pioneered in e-commerce, advocacy, politics, and consumer finance.

You will work on a fast-paced, impact-driven project team charged with intelligently improving the operations powering the policies and programs that hundreds of millions of Americans interact with on a daily basis. Our work builds the frameworks and infrastructure that allows agencies to deal with big public health challenges. We bring definition to challenging problems, creatively identify data sources, then design analytics that accurately measure impact and move the needle every day. We work in changing, ambiguous environments, so we embrace nuance, inclusivity, and complexity to deliver programs that work for the diverse groups of individuals who rely on us.

About the Role:

DevOps Engineers work on important problems at the intersection of data science and engineering. They help implement the tools and infrastructure that support and improve the analytical environment for our day-to-day analytical work. They may work on compute-intensive or automation-focused data projects directly as part of a cross-disciplinary analytics team. For example, a DevOps Engineer Imay test internal commandline tools developed by analysts or deploy additional analyst-facing products (i.e. Sagemaker).

What You'll Do:

As part of the engineering team at BlueLabs, you'll

  • Design. We're working on some challenging engineering problems, and our engineers are driving the process of solving those problems. You'll need to understand the problem and be prepared to support the team in implementing the solution.
  • Collaborate. Every project benefits from diverse viewpoints from the very beginning, and so you'll work closely with other engineers, our analysts, and data scientists, to develop the technology that empowers them to run data-driven programs.
  • Explore. Technology-especially around data and analytics-is moving fast, and we need to stay nimble. That means trying new things. They won't always be the ultimate solutions, but they're an important part of the path to getting there.
  • Build. You won't just write code. You'll build apps, systems, and solutions that are challenging, exciting, and long-lasting.

Who You Are:

You are a software engineer or developer, and you want to work at an organization where you are empowered to deploy your engineering skills to make lasting positive change. You're excited that your work will directly create a world where organizations are more empowered to make equitable and nuanced decisions that improve access to health, and where consumers receive relevant proven and specific information about how they can improve their health and financial security.

We're not building a team for a day-we are building a collaborative community of engineers, analysts, and data scientists. More than anything else, we're looking for people who are excited by our mission, love to create, are honest about what they know, fascinated by what they don't, and relish the opportunity to work with people who value the same.

We know that the best candidate may not fit neatly into the boxes we define here so if this sounds like a place you want to work, even if you're not confident you perfectly match our posting, we still encourage you to apply! We welcome diverse, out-of-the-box thinking, and we strive to provide an ecosystem for innovation and development. If you want more information about who we are as a team, check out our LinkedIn, Twitter, or Instagram.

What we are Seeking:

  • Knowledge of programming basics
  • Understand the basics of a specialty (e.g., web frontend, API backend, data engineering)
  • Experience with at least one programming language - and be excited to dive into new ones (our core languages are Python and JavaScript)
  • Desire to learn about new technologies and be dedicated to expanding your skills every day
  • Passion for data, visualization, analytics or just plain problem solving
  • In order to be qualified for this position you must currently have or be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust security clearance, which requires either US Citizenship or three (3) of five (5) years of US residency

You will stand out as a candidate if any of these apply to you (don't worry- we aren't looking for all of them!):

  • Demonstrated interest in using data and technology to advance social good in areas like health, education or civic engagement
  • Experience with SQL databases, especially complex SQL pipelines (with analytic functions, nested queries, and more) on columnar SQLdatabase systems, such as Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Vertica
  • Experience supporting the deployment of applications in an AWS or other cloud environment using automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, and cluster management/orchestration software like Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Experience building distributed data processing systems using tools like Spark, Kafka, Storm, or Hadoop

  • 15 weeks paid parental leave
