The Development Solutions Director is responsible for all aspects of software engineering ensuring personnel, methods, tools, processes, and procedures meet or exceed defined internal guidelines and industry standards. This role develops the vision and strategy required to ensure the firm's development practices will deliver technology solutions that fully meet business needs. This role works to develop team members into highly skilled engineers in all aspects of development including testing, architecting, and designing of robust scalable technology solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Establishes a vision, strategy, and roadmap for enhancing the development capabilities within RSM and sees it through to reality
  • Clearly articulates a vision for overall development quality that aligns to IT strategy and sets measurable goals and objectives to achieve the vision.
  • Leads and governs the implementation of a discipline roadmap, demonstrating the desired results
  • Establishes engineering best practices and standards (across people, process, and technology) and ensures all necessary practices, tools and templates are understood by the development resources and are appropriately executed.
  • Establishes metrics for teams and continuously refines the metrics to ensure we are maturing in accordance with our development strategic vision
  • Evaluates lessons learned and ensures SDLC improvements are implemented
  • Provides governance and ensures compliance of all risk assessments associated with development. Ensures risks are reported at all levels.
  • Leads by example identifying opportunity costs through transparency and the potential impact of decisions made
  • Evaluates existing and emerging development and engineering methodologies, tools, techniques, or other industry best practices, how they fit within our existing RSM SDLC and develops a plan for implementation as well as continued maturation.
  • Establishes risk tolerance levels that can be used as a guide for the level of quality provided
  • Collaborates with Digital Solution Groups to evaluate resources as needed to appropriately scale existing teams.
  • Responsible, in collaboration with solution teams, for establishing, enabling, implementing, and governing RSM best practices, standards and guidelines for role level activities.
  • Inspires all disciplines to embrace a quality first mindset
  • Responsible for building and growing an engineering talent pipeline
  • Acts as career advisor.
  • Trains and mentors all technical engineers, both direct and indirect reports.
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or similar experience.


TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS:

  • Understands the products and Services offered by the Firm and can explain them to others.
  • Experience developing or maturing devops processes
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of engineering, development, and scale.
  • Stays current on industry practices
  • Firm understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle process.
  • Strong people/interpersonal skills. Serves as a positive liaison between management and staff.
  • Ability to work within multiple levels of the firm.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of personalities.
  • Experience building, designing and implementing cloud-based technologies leveraging AWS, Azure or GCP


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience; including experience managing development and engineering teams.
  • Strong experience in Agile and working within multiple frameworks
  • Proven experience building a successful development and engineering program
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow development and engineering teams both domestically and with offshore partners


LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

  • Strategically thinking and motivated leader with a desire to achieve above and beyond expectations
  • Delegates effectively and monitors progress of team members. Plans as needed with no guidance.
  • Experience mentoring teams through problem resolution and encouraging staff to share responsibility in problem solving.
  • Experience with personnel management. Resolves conflicts timely and beneficially to all concerned.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a group of employees with a department or function.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, affect, and implement change.
  • Understanding the Development & Quality Assurance process.
  • Familiarity with statistics and establishing metrics.
