Job Description

The Design for Serviceability Engineer will engage closely with peers to develop design for serviceability requirements and to provide review and guidance regarding serviceability considerations in new and existing designs. This engineer leads to ensure appropriateness of engineering specifications and the development of robust serviceability features to support new product introductions, quality improvements and cost reduction. They will serve as a technical point person in systems engineering for product development, directly affecting definition, development, and optimization of designs and service procedures to help ensure Right-the-1st-Time launches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing design for serviceability product requirements in support of cost and efficiency of service for NPI, Quality improvement, and COGS productivity initiatives.
  • Working with a multi-disciplinary development team, reviewing new and existing designs to address serviceability considerations.
  • Developing design rules and guidance to enable or enhance serviceability.
  • Working with Service Engineers and Service Development Engineers to understand existing process and service data capture capabilities, and opportunities.
  • Establishing and maintaining metrics to identify weak spots and chart progress in serviceability, leveraging existing product lifecycle feedback channels or proposing/creating new ones.
  • Supporting product development after design transfer to respond to serviceability gaps through various sustaining, field support, enhancement, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintaining strong and productive relationships with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Commercial and Global Service teams.



Qualifications:

a. Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years' direct experience working with a field organization, ideally in a customer facing service role.
  • Minimum 3 years' design engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop product requirements for serviceability, including hardware, software, system, safety, and documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely as well as proven ability to facilitate meetings at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance cost, quality and schedule constraints while escalating issues as needed.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical concept aptitude.
  • Ability to directly engage and review engineering materials, including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and design requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment including software tools, oscilloscopes, DVM's and function generators.
  • Excellent communication abilities, including verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to build, manage, and execute a funnel of projects and deliver short- and long-term results.
  • Coaching, and mentoring skills with the ability to teach principles and mentor projects in a team environment.
  • Ability to thrive and flourish in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.



b. Preferred or Desired

  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ten years of industry experience.
  • Experience with large scale medical devices or other highly integrated capital equipment.
