Description
This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite weekly in Warren, MI.
The Design Release Engineer (DRE) for Switches is responsible for leading design release for current and future switch assemblies. The engineer in this role will representing the switches organization to internal program teams.
In this role you will develop engineering solutions to release a final design for production. In the role, you would support the Global Lead DRE, and also work with supplier resident engineers to resolve issues and release of parts. As the DRE, you'll interact with various departments, supporting Manufacturing and Service Engineers, Product Engineering, Product Launch teams, as well as working with Quality engineers to investigate warranty related issues, and preparation of the owner's manual. Additionally, you would present design alternatives to management for decision. The role requires a proactive individual who will ensure project timing and part availability.
The DRE will also:
- Develop and design package concept.
- Initiate and conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Prepare and track Engineering Change Work Order for release documentation and changes.
- Develop design alternatives and present them to management for decision.
- Manage Change Requests and Issue tracking.
- Coordinate design of component with vehicle changes.
- Initiate, analyze and revise design if test/ manufacturing/ field problem is shown in test reports and implement problem resolution.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work within GM, suppliers, and with program teams
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple activities
- Ability to self-motivate / self-direct
- Problem-solving proficiency
- Knowledge and experience with design release system and process, manufacturing process, and vehicle validation process.
- Design for Six Sigma training and experience
- This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree or other Advanced Degree
