Design Release Engineer - Structures/Closures - Body Engineering
Description
This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.
The GM Body Team offers opportunities across a spectrum of engineering. These product engineering positions involve responsibility for all activities, including definition of requirements, execution of design, validation and testing. These roles require an experienced engineer to lead and drive a multi-functional product development team. In addition, they require collaboration with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions.
The ideal candidate is one who desires to build their technical depth as an engineer within the automotive Body enterprise. This candidate possesses outstanding communication, project management skills, and is a hardworking, person who enjoys seeking challenges and following through with robust solutions. We have Engineering positions available in the following areas:
- Design Release Engineer - Front and Rear Closures
- Design Release Engineer - Side Closures
- Design Release Engineer - Body Structures
Design Release Engineer Front and Rear Closures - As a Front and Rear Closures Engineer, you will be responsible to develop and integrate front and rear closure mechanical and electrical components into the vehicle. Specific component integration you may be responsible for may include Hoods, Fenders, Liftgates, Decklids, Power Closures, Front and Rear Latching, Front Trunks
Design Release Engineer Side Closures - As a Side Closures Engineer, you will be responsible to develop and integrate door hardware system (including Electro-mechanical systems) content into the Side Closures system. We are seeking to fill various roles within the Side Closures team for specific component integration including Door Hardware, Outside Door Handles, Electric Motor Powered Components (Mechatronics), Glass Guidance Systems, Current Product Engineer (Quality & Warranty), Seals, Weatherstrips & Molding
Design Release Engineer Body Structures - As a Body Structures Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing - during the development of the following areas throughout a vehicle's lifecycle. Commodities include Body Structures, Sealers, Baffles, Adhesives, Fuel Fill/Charge Port Door, Structural Roof Trim, Battery Enclosures, Movable Roofs

Additional Description
Education Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
Experienced Required:
- 2 or more years of experience with developing and executing technical solutions for electrical / mechanical components to support new vehicle programs
- Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations
Preferred Skills:
- Master's Degree or other Advanced Degree
- Vehicle or new product launch processes
- Stamping and metal forming design knowledge
- Injection molded plastic design knowledge
- Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
- Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

This role is posted at both the 6th and 7th level. The determination by HR and the Hiring Manager as to whether an offer will be lateral or promotional will be based on a candidate's relevant experience and whether the role will amount to a significant increase in level of responsibility.
