Description
This is a Hybrid Position which does not require you to be on-site full-time. This role enables you to work at a GM facility as required and off-site as needed.
The Role
General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation of automotive with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of leading-edge central compute and autonomous capabilities! The Global Electrification, Controls, Software & Electronics Semiconductor Engineering team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on design and commercialization of leading-edge semiconductors including System-on-Chip, Microcontrollers, Memory, Communications and other electronics, enabling introduction of new technologies across all our products. The team is tightly integrated across all electronics domains including AV, ADAS, Battery, Infotainment, Connectivity, Propulsion, etc.
We are seeking a Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the specification, design, sourcing, integration and production readiness activities for a specific line of semiconductors. The selected DRE will be depended on to build strong partnerships with cross-functional internal team members and semiconductor industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Build partnerships and work closely with functional peers across engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to implement semiconductor strategic objectives
  • Develop Statement of Requirements and release semiconductor designs facilitating on-time sourcing and integration with ECUs in accordance with Global Vehicle Development Process and program timing requirements
  • Build strong semiconductor fabrication partner relationships ensuring clear understanding of manufacturing process, supply chain business arrangements
  • Lead process/product design changes related to semiconductors within scope of responsibility
  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductor product line within scope of responsibility
  • Lead Product Development Team consisting of all internal and external partners ensuring semiconductors are designed, produced and production ready
  • Support ECU integration/interface design activities for semiconductors within scope of responsibility
  • Communicate progress regularly to leadership


Additional Description
Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science
  • Minimum 2+ years Design Release experience or Tier 1 design/application experience
  • Working knowledge of electronic fundamentals
  • Proven ability to perform design analysis and create circuit concept designs with microcontrollers
  • Experience supporting the ECU development process with focus on performance, cost, manufacturability and reliability
  • Hands on experience with microcontroller evaluation boards & software integration
  • Proficiency with electrical engineering tools such as oscilloscopes, power supplies and signal generators
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
  • Exceptional demonstrated experience with cross functional projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to learn quickly


Qualifications - Preferred

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years electronics design and application experience at OEM, Tier I, Tier II
  • Exceptional focus on program management, metrics, data and results
  • Experience with microcontroller, SoC, power management circuits, ethernet and memory ICs
  • Experience with radar specific microcontrollers and MMICs
  • Technical background in semiconductors and/or electronics design at Tier 1 or 2
