General Motors Design Center Fabrication is seeking an associate application engineer with experience in a wide range of fabrication technologies and processes, excellent organizational and project management skills, knowledge of corporate safety applications, facility engineering, and purchasing protocols who will be tasked with assisting in all aspects of technology integration.

This position is primarily onsite but does leave some room for flexibility under our Work Appropriately model.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit a safety mentality while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concerns and supporting the safety champions of each space in Design
  • Demonstrate behaviors that support diversity and inclusion
  • Collaborate with DCF Leadership, Supervision, SME's and UAW Staff relative to the technologies required for the respective Fabrication Shops such as: CNC milling, Additive Manufacturing, Vacuum Casting, 3D Scanning, Paint Processing, etc.
  • Support the DCF strategy for procurement and implementation of technologies and equipment
  • Assist with benchmarking and integrating numerous technologies along with directing projects through: Finance, GPSC, Sustainable Workplaces, Engineering, GM Workplace Safety and Suppliers
  • Collaborate on SOR's, Benchmarking and Sourcing Documents, Facility Requirements, participate in G-Risk and G-Comply Safety Reviews and understanding of Safety Contract Management
  • Maintain project financials, spending curves, forecast to actuals and present findings to Design Financial and DCF Leadership
  • Work with General Contractors, Skilled Trades and Staff Engineers in order to ensure successful completion of complex projects
  • Provide on-site coordination of contractors, suppliers, Sustainable Workplaces, and UAW staff during construction, installation, and initial startup of new or refurbished equipment
  • Provide status reviews to departmental managers regarding timing, cost, and progress of various projects both verbally and through appropriate presentations

Additional Description
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Experienced in project planning, coordinating and scheduling with Sustainable Workplaces, Facility Engineering, General Contractors, and suppliers
  • Ability to conduct SWOT analysis of all aspects of equipment ownership, including initial cost, installation, maintenance expectations, delivery, machine performance, and suitability
  • Experienced in planning and time management of complex concurrent projects
  • Experienced in working cross functionally i.e. Financial, GPSC, Sustainable Workplaces, General Contractors, GM Workplace Safety and Technology Suppliers
  • Demonstrated ability to handle an exceptionally high workload, while being very innovative and displaying outstanding initiative
  • Experienced in coordinating/delegating tasks among the various team members for multiple projects
  • Strong administrative and technical qualities and exceptional ingenuity and problem solving ability
  • Ability to evaluate highly complex issues and recommend solutions
  • Excellent technical breadth i.e.; familiarity with fabrication machinery, equipment and processes
  • Associate's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of industry related experience considered
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to influence others within the organization to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches
  • Experienced with developing and integrating advanced technical solutions in a complex environment
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with CAD Software
  • Knowledgeable of GM corporate safety standards
  • Skilled at dealing with and resolving ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability at building effective teams
  • Experience with UAW personnel resources
  • Ability to build relationships with suppliers to address issues with urgency, remove roadblocks, and collaborate to ensure successful project completion
