Design At Alloy

Alloy’s mission is to help financial companies deploy safe and seamless customer experiences. 

Alloy reduces friction for end-users, helping them onboard with fewer hoops, keeping their accounts safe with ongoing transaction monitoring, and helps them get credit decisions faster. We envision a more dynamic financial industry where the underbanked find more access to the financial products they need. 

Design sits at the center of that mission, enabling fintechs and banks to onboard customers, monitor their transaction activity, and extend credit offers confidently while meeting all regulatory requirements. The complexity of compliance rules and the ever-evolving sophistication of fraudsters create a massive opportunity for Alloy to provide a single API that reduces risk and helps fintechs and banks get to market faster. We provide policy owners, compliance officers, fraud investigators, and developers with the tools they need to spend more time building best in class products for their customers.

About The Role

We think of a Design Engineer as “a designer that codes”. You will explore, design, prototype, and build new experiences for our growing platform. You’ll create and improve components for our library, and use those to assemble intuitive interfaces in our dashboard. You will help tighten the feedback loop between product, design, and engineering by pushing our design system forward visually and interactively. You’ll be obsessed with browser performance, responsive UIs, microinteractions and animations, and accessibility. You will collaborate with product designers to own the entire surface of our platform. At our current scale you’ll be able to look across the entire product and design system and help establish the patterns that enable Alloy to be a category leader in banking infrastructure. 

What You Will Do

  • Work hand-in-hand with product designers to develop design language principles, and design both primitives and complex components to be used across our product.
  • Help prototype complex interactions using Figma, Framer, or hand coding where necessary and translate those into production-ready code. 
  • Help maintain our existing component library and create new components for our React front-end.
  • Collaborate with our front-end developers across different product squads to establish best practices, mitigate design debt, and seamlessly roll out a rebrand of our product aligned with our refreshed marketing material.
  • Keep our team up to date with the state of the art of front-end development.

What We Are Looking For

  • Advanced knowledge of modern HTML and CSS and comfort with single page Javascript applications.
  • 5 or more years of relevant design and web front-end development or creative technology experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company.
  • Some experience designing and building complex dashboards including (but not limited to) data visualizations, information heavy interfaces, or dashboards handling sensitive/high-risk data. 
  • A strong understanding of the formal elements of design beyond the web including typography, layout, balance, proportion, motion etc.
