Job Description
Caterpillar's Resource Industries Operations and Products Division is currently seeking a Structures Design Engineer for its Tucson, AZ location. You will be responsible for leading the design activities for the electric rope shovel (ERS) heavy structures team. As a structural design engineer, you will play an important role in developing and continuously improving the performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability of the heavy structures components and weldments like the Boom, Track Roller frames, Chassis, Carbody, etc.
Job Duties:
- Create concepts and direct the design and development of complex engineering projects for Large Structures.
- Utilize Creo to create highly integrated designs.
- Utilize Creo Simulate to analyze designs to optimize durability and cost.
- Manage the team's NPI and CPI design deliverables, product cost targets, product reliability goals, and drawing release quality.
- Responsible for utilizing offshore staff to manage workloads.
- Collaborate with manufacturing team and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability.
- Support Continuous Product Process Development (CPPD) Team for seamless implementation of design changes or new designs into production.
- Responsible for maintenance of current production designs.
- Review and approve design deviations as required.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
3 plus years of relevant product design experience.
Top candidates will also have:
- High level of proficiency in Creo or other modeling or simulation tools
- 3+ years design, analysis, or test experience on Light or Heavy fabricated structures.
- Experience executing projects requiring in-depth technical analysis or applying analytical processes to solution development.
- Experience with NPI, CPI, APQP, Cost, and Teamcenter tools/process
- Experience using Virtual Product Development tools and/or resources to solve product design problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience collaborating with global engineering service providers
- Hands-on experience (e.g. machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, welding, etc.)

- The location for this position is Tucson, AZ.
