The Senior Database Engineer (DE) is responsible for the performance and reliability of data stores. This role will be expected to Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements to automate manual processes, and optimize data delivery. This individual will also be responsible build and optimize SQL processes to support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management. Outside of the team, you'll collaborate with other engineering teams to build tools, applications, and services that improve our ability to provide reliable and high-performance services quickly. The DE will be challenged to create innovative solutions to legacy and cloud compute as well as new concepts, ideas, and continuous process improvement. This individual will need to demonstrate and maintain high standards while fostering a proactive, efficient, and service-oriented work environment. Communication and professionalism are paramount as you will be representing RSM Technical Services to effectively engage with technical and business leadership as well as external providers of IT services. This role will also use all your abilities to explain solutions and complex issues while demonstrating the ability to lead and impart knowledge effectively to other team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) for the design, configuration, support and maintenance of SQL platforms. Identifies changes for the product architecture from the reliability, performance and availability perspective with a data driven approach focused on relational databases. Implements SRE/DevOps standards for Data Technologies and continually improves upon these processes and technologies. Design, implement and automate continuous integrations pipelines for major Data Technologies in a templatized IaC format for reusability across the Enterprise utilizing market leading IaC tools, services, and technologies. Monitors and manages server health, functionality and availability related to database and other related servers. Install, configure, secure, and maintain multi-tiered environments. Develops and implements technical standards, procedures, and techniques for the resolution of Enterprise IT system problems to ensure maximum application availability and performance.
  • Establishes and maintains technical standards, procedures, and techniques for the resolution of enterprise database problems to ensure maximum application availability and performance. Orchestrates compute legacy environments. Configures and Integrates custom and 3rd party applications and add-ons. Regular review of alerts, logs, and performance. Regular review of event logs and performance monitors through the creation of alerts. A leading participant in disaster recovery planning and practices. Works with end-users, Microsoft Support, and other vendors in resolution of support issues as needed.
  • Propose and drive architectural changes that affect the whole company to solve scaling and performance problems. Collaborates with internal development, functional technology, and program management teams on a frequent basis. Provides recommendations in product evaluations, testing, certification training and product lifecycle management. Implements upgrades, enhancements and fixes following established change management procedures
  • Participates in scheduled and unscheduled weekend/after-hours system maintenance and support using established change management procedures. Performs rotational on-call duty.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, equivalent work history/experience or working towards achieving a degree


TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and supporting technologies (Required)
  • Troubleshooting of complex distributed environments - Required
  • Management of Public Cloud Offerings (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, ADO) - Required
  • Advanced Scripting Skills (PowerShell, Terraform and other IaC languages) - Required
  • Experience administering MS Azure SQL Server (Required)
  • Proficient with SQL Performance Tuning and System Optimization (Required)
  • Data Technology Platform Monitoring experience - Required
  • Strong background with Data Warehousing (Preferred)
  • IT Development (.NET, C#) experience (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Azure DevOps methodology (Preferred)
  • Windows OS and hardware - basic administration of a server including service packs and hot fixes (Preferred) 3rd Party Tools (Veeam, ServiceNow, WebEx, and MS SCOM) - Preferred


EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of MS SQL DBA experience (Required)
  • 3+ Experience with Public Cloud Solutions (Azure//AWS/Google) -(Required)
  • 1+ year of experience as lead SQL DBA on moderate to large projects (Required)
  • SQL and structured Data Platform experience - (Required)
  • ETL Process and Technology experience using SSIS and ADF- (Required)
  • Strong unstructured Data Technology experience i.e., CosmosDB, Mongo, Data Lakes, Data Bricks (Preferred)
  • AWS Data Technologies (DynamoDB, RDS, DocumentDB) - (Preferred)
  • Experience in Orchestration and containerization using Kubernetes - (Preferred)
  • Agile Methodology Experience -(Preferred)
  • ITIL framework knowledge -(Preferred)

  • Experience in team collaboration - Required
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills - Required
  • Exceptional analytical and process development skills - Required
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and projects (Required)
