In Product Development, we bring engineering ideas to life. The Ford Driver Assistance Technologies (DAT) program designs and develops hardware and software providing best in class behavior for features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Park Assist, and 360 Camera Systems. We are seeking a diligent, detail-driven Quality Assurance engineer to support both manual testing activities as well as the delivery of software facilitating automated testing.
What you'll be able to do:

  • Create test designs and participate in test plan reviews to confirm sufficient happy path and rainy-day scenario coverage are in place.
  • Support the design and execution of functional and integration tests.
  • Log detailed defects, and work together with the appropriate engineering teams to resolution
  • Participate in High Level Design and Software Specification reviews to ensure testability and traceability.
  • Provide guidance on test design techniques and test execution/environment types to yield maximum efficiency and highest quality.
  • Work with leads to define clear test boundaries and roles and responsibilities (SW component, subsystem, system, and E2E for features).
  • Work with development teams to make sure Design for Testability practices are followed.
  • Look for ways to improve test processes and tools to do things better and faster without sacrificing quality.
  • Develop and maintain software tools and features to assist in automated testing.
  • Develop and maintain test libraries that interface with vehicle electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Follow established agile development methods within the scrum team

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance as a manual test engineer, test automation, or tools development
  • 5+ years of experience maintaining automated execution of large number of tests and triaging test results

Our preferred requirements:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in quality assurance, using various techniques (e.g., manual, automated, fuzz), tools, and equipment
  • 8+ years of experience unit testing frameworks and languages (e.g., GTest, CUnit, Slash, Python, Ruby)
  • Experience with shell scripting and Linux development environments.
  • Experience with data analytics and visualization.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, electronics assembly and low-level debugging equipment (e.g., Lauterbach ICE, Wireshark, Oscilloscope, Multimeter)
  • Experience with debuggers and CAN tools such as CANalyzers or similar test equipment
  • Experience with testing and development within the automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, security, and safety
  • Has hands-on experience with defect tracking tools (JIRA, TestRail preferred) and test case management tools
  • Excellent teamwork and people skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
