Job Responsibilities

Viasat Global Enterprise and Mobility (GEM) is delivering high speed industry-leading, next-generation Ka-band satellite in-flight connectivity to leading Airline Companies. We are looking for a talented, and motivated individual to help build, evolve and operate our Commercial Air lab environment. In this role, you will work closely with our lab and engineering teams to operate and maintain simulated commercial airline test environments. You will be responsible for supporting and maintaining virtual and physical aircraft test equipment, as well as managing lab resources, asset management and lab security. You will be part of an evolving and fast-growing industry and will work within a multi-disciplinary team set in a dynamic Agile development environment. Sounds interesting? Keep reading

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance.
  • 2 years of hands on experience leading teams.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Datadog, etc.
  • Troubleshooting and triaging of system alerts for mid-level issues.
  • Ability to work closely with the other team members to provide the right tooling to measure the reliability of our systems.
  • Experience with typical application landscape within an enterprise data center environment.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining virtualized environments (e.g. VMware).
  • Strong experience with Linux and Windows system administration including security and patch management.
  • Solid understanding of networking principles including networking protocols, basic routing, ports, and firewalls.
  • Experience with supporting hardware (HP servers, NetApp storage, and multi-vendor network devices) in virtualized environments.
  • Discover opportunities for automation by identifying manual, repetitive, tactical operational workloads and develop automation scripts, tools, and/or frameworks to optimize and standardize.
  • Ability to work across multi-functional teams.
  • Can function Independently and mentor junior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in heterogenous environments for engineers and customers.
  • Exceptional organizing and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work on a geographically distributed team.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Travel up to 10%.



Preferences

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field.
  • Eight or more related certifications and work experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree: A+, Linux+, or Cisco Certified Network Associate, AWS or similar.
  • Scripting experience using Python, JavaScript, REST or equivalent language.
  • VMWare or AWS/Cloud experience.
  • Knowledge or experience with tools such as Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Docker.
  • Satellite/Wireless modem test experience.
  • RF or power/voltage measurement experience.
  • Experience in an Operation and maintenance/Site Reliability role or similar.
