The Curriculum Engineer is a new position in Technical Services whose role is to support the Technical Services Learning and Development program.  Their responsibilities will include designing and creating interactive internal training modules in cooperation with technical leaders and subject matter experts.

Our Technical Services team members use their exceptional problem solving and customer service skills in conjunction with their deep technical experience to advise customers and to solve their complex MongoDB problems.  The Curriculum Engineer will work closely with this team in order to create and maintain technical education modules for both new and upskilling team members to perform their support tasks at the highest levels.

Responsibilities

  • Identify technical and procedural training needs across the team
  • Build out the training curriculum, module hierarchy and training policies
  • Foster subject matter expert contribution to the creation and review of technical content
  • Establish and report on training success metrics
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve internal training materials (videos, slides, reference materials, evaluations, etc.)
  • Create environments and technical exercises for hands-on engineering workshops
  • Improve practices and tooling related to the training content lifecycle
  • Evaluate and recommend the most effective delivery methods for training
  • Suggest the appropriate cadence to keep key skills fresh as well as supporting new product and feature readiness across the organization
  • Work with a global distributed team across multiple time zones

Requirements 

  • Experience developing and delivering technical education/training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Familiarity with course development methodologies
  • Proven success in creating and delivering effective hands-on learning
  • The desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills
  • One or more of the following technical skills (multiple is a bonus):
    • Experience using or managing databases
    • Some basic coding knowledge in one of the languages with drivers supported by MongoDB (eg. Java, PHP, Python, Ruby, C#, Node.js, ...)
    • Experience managing software development projects/ processes/ SDLC
    • Experience with system administration of servers or networks
    • Technical Support experience
    • Data analysis experience
  • Experience evaluating training effectiveness

Nice to Haves 

  • Experience using and managing a major Learning Management System (LMS) or e-Learning platform 
  • Experience using or managing MongoDB
  • Experience with Jira or Salesforce
  • Experience with search engine optimization
  • Experience with gamification of learning

Objectives

Within 3 months:

  • Via new hire training and shadowing, acquire a deep knowledge of MongoDB instructor-led training offerings, student person, and learning objectives
  • Assist in the creation and review of new training content

Within 6 months:

  • Successfully co-deliver several MongoDB training courses, demonstrating a solid understanding of the source material
  • Comfortable with creating and releasing new/updated training content, given a course outline with defined learning objectives
  • Contribute to the design of new and updated training offerings

Within 12 months:

  • Own the end-to-end production of one or more training offerings - from curriculum design to content development to gathering stakeholder feedback
  • With the broader Curriculum team, contribute to refining processes and tools to drive increased development velocity and quality of instructor-led training content
