Conveyor Execution/Equipment Installation Engineer

As a Conveyor Execution Engineer/Equipment Installation Engineer you will be responsible for developing the statement of requirements and managing the execution of conveyors/process equipment installation in various GM Manufacturing Centers. You will be responsible for Conveyor or Installation Execution activities across all ME Centers (Body, Paint and GA).
Creativity and initiative along with a passion for managing construction projects are key characteristics of this position. Conveyor or Installation Suppliers will work directly for you. You will be directly responsible for all aspects of their work, including safety, schedule, and cost. You will consult with your supervisor as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generates technical solutions for current, new and major vehicle programs
- Provides technical leadership for the Supplier
- Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
- Develops Installation SOR (Statement of Requirements)
- Solves engineering related problems and manages implementation
- Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
- Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
- Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing, GM Centers, IE, Layout team and Material
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
- Manages all aspects of the project execution including estimating, safety and scheduling
- Supports debug and validation at the ME Center
- Ability to support all shifts and holidays
- Responsible to support various Centers in design process and installation of equipment based on requirements from the Center.
- Responsible for complete conveyor project from concept, design, installation, startup and validation
Additional Description
Minimum Requirements:
- 1+ years in one of the areas of construction management, safety management, tooling installation, conveyor design, integration of conveyor equipment, and supporting plant projects
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Proficient in Microsoft Project and Excel
- Ability to use AutoCAD
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicable Journeyperson's Card with Superintendent Experience
- Technical Degree in Construction Management or equivalent experience
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
- GM will consider both recent college graduates with the desire to learn and develop the skills to become successful in manufacturing and those with experience in the construction management or manufacturing engineering field.
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- Specific knowledge of the union construction industry
- Knowledge of any of the following: Press Shops, Body Shop, General Assembly, Paint Processes and/or Global Propulsion systems
- Knowledge of controls automation and robotic systems
Location: Warren, MI - However, extensive and frequent travel may be required.
