Cat Medium Tractor Products (MTP) play a big role in helping our customers build a better world and, if you have the skills and abilities we need, we have a great opportunity for you to join us as a Control Systems Engineering Specialist where you will have a direct impact on how these Earthmoving machines operate! You will play an integral role on the Machine Control Systems Development Team, collaborating on exciting and innovative technical control system solutions with a focus on medium track-type tractor applications. Your work will impact the development and demonstration of machine control technologies that are often used in conjunction with operator assist systems, information systems, safety systems, remote control, semi-autonomous, and fully autonomous machine control systems.

As the Control Systems Engineering Specialist, you will get to:

  • Research and develop new technology that aligns with customer needs for operator assist, safety, remote control, and autonomy.
  • Develop algorithms for sensing, planning, and controls systems to support powertrain, steering, and blade automation for medium track-type tractors.
  • Solve complex problems and debug systems that include hardware and software components, including on-machine tuning and testing at the proving ground.
  • Collaborate with controls and software engineers to verify and release software, identify and resolve issues, and validate solutions with operators and customers.
  • Participate in R&D programs through entire lifecycle, from launch to production.
  • Collaborate with a distributed, multidisciplinary team - effectively communicate ideas and developmental results.


To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications) :

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering or Computer Science curriculum (preferably Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering) with 8 years' experience in control systems development (electronic systems and machine controls & software). Advanced degree will be considered with commensurate experience.
  • Experience working with powertrain, steering, and/or implement systems on earthmoving equipment.
  • Experience with machine controls development tools: CANape and CANalyzer
  • Experience with datalink protocols (CAN, J1939, ethernet) as applied to earthmoving equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine level hardware and/or software issues.


Top Candidates Will Also Bring (Desired but not required) :

  • A focus on controls systems or mechatronics as part of undergraduate/graduate curriculum.
  • Excellent analytical skills and extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.
  • Excellent technical and problem-solving skills, with strong mechanical and hydraulics aptitude.
  • Experience developing and testing systems on track-type tractor machines or other earthmoving equipment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with software design, kinematic design, control/robotics logic, electrical, electronics, hydraulic, software coding, embedded computer system, control theory and data communication.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab/Simulink, Docker and/or ROS.
  • Familiar with Autosar, GIT and IVY.
