About the job
The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for an innovative technologist with specialized interest in container technology and application platforms to come join us. In this role, you will support customers throughout North America (NA) using the latest proven technologies. You will specialize in the design and development of containerized applications, deployment pipelines, and cloud-ready application architectures. As a Container Application Consultant, you'll learn how to design and guide implementations of cloud-ready applications and deployment pipelines on large-scale container platform clusters using Java, Node.js, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. You won't be expected to know everything from day one, but your ability to learn new technology quickly will be essential. This is a remote position with regular travel to customer sites, following Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines, and can be located anywhere in the U.S. within close proximity to an airport. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Build automated, containerized cloud application platform solutions, with a focus on application concerns, including cloud-ready distributed application architectures, migrating workloads to containers, containerized development workflows, and integrating container platforms with automated continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines
  • Enable and support software teams and developers to be successful with building containerized applications on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
  • Implement application modernization solutions for customers including performing migrations and application refactoring
  • Assist in presales discovery and solutions development
  • Travel regularly to work alongside leading financial services, retail, telecommunication, and institutional customers, in line with Red Hat's COVID-19 guidelines

After joining Red Hat, you will go through an intensive training program on Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, cloud native development, and other related DevOps topics.
At 6 weeks, be prepared to join a project team by acquiring the following:

  • Understand how to containerize applications and stand up production-ready CI and CD pipelines with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, integrated with existing enterprise systems
  • Gain knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform including OpenShift Pipelines, OpenShift GitOps, and OpenShift Service Mesh
  • Gain practical experience with Red Hat solutions and offerings

Within 6 months, be ready to design container platform solutions and lead routine container platform projects by attaining the following:

  • Successfully complete multiple customer projects using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
  • Gain knowledge of how a customer use case can be developed into an application architecture and project plan based around Red Hat's technologies
  • Understand how Red Hat's technologies can transform software delivery, like DevOps, practices at large organizations
  • Provide feedback and contributions like lessons learned, best practices, and how-tos to our internal and external communities of practice

Within 12 months, be ready to design multi-product cloud application solutions and demonstrate technical leadership in container platforms by accomplishing the following:

  • Design, mentor, and lead complex, large-scale application containerization, microservices development, or mono-to-micro migration projects in challenging customer environments
  • Help other consultants learn DevOps and container technologies and processes
  • Apply new technologies, frameworks, or methodologies to containerized application development and deployment

What you will bring

  • Experience building and supporting cloud-native, distributed enterprise applications, leading application development work, deployment through production, and operationalization
  • Experience with software development, including languages, systems, and frameworks like Java, Spring, Quarkus, Python, JMS, Kafka, SQL, NoSQL, and Redis
  • Applied knowledge of modern software delivery methods and tools including DevSecOps and CI and CD, e.g., Jenkins, Tekton, etc.
  • Experience with Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or a derivative
  • Background in consulting or similar experience, e.g., working in a strategic advisory capacity to other teams and engineers, learning new technology quickly
  • Solid creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Experience with software delivery on Kubernetes, including cloud native application development on Kubernetes, CI and CD pipelines, service mesh, microservices, serverless, knative, and automated testing
