For Spring 2022

As a Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op, you will have opportunities to learn and manage the manufacturing assembly, test, and packaging processes of all Markforged products, including printers, furnaces, and other systems. You will report to the Operations Engineering Lead and participate in building strong relationships with contract manufacturers (CM) and critical sub-tier suppliers while working closely with internal engineering and operation teams. Ideally, you will also have a strong background in engineering and quality.  In addition, this individual must be self-motivated, have exceptional communication skills, handle multiple project assignments, and be willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.

  • Learn to Identify DFM/A opportunities, mitigate project/products risks, and perform cost/benefit analysis
  • Improve the manufacturability and cost of hardware built at 3rd party manufacturers through tools such as process capability studies, process/test design, cell layouts, time-studies, inspection protocols, supplier qualification, continuous improvement projects, and work instruction documentation
  • Design and implement robust tooling/fixture solutions to improve process control and production throughput
  • Support process qualifications and capability studies (custom test fixture validation, Gage R&R, DOEs, FMEA’s, etc)
  • Oversee the development, generation, and validation of work instructions, tooling/fixtures, equipment calibration, testing, quality forms, and drawings throughout the NPI process
  • Assist in dual sourcing and supplier launch initiatives to scale up existing product lines
  • Provide exceptional production support on people, processes, materials, and equipment to achieve operation principle goals (safety, quality, service, and productivity)
  • Work cross-functionally with Markforged Hardware, Software, Operations, Product, Supply Chain, Customer Solutions, and Marketing teams to ensure project alignment and success throughout product life-cycle
  • Gain the skills to drive accountability with internal and external stakeholders on project deliverables

What you have:

  • Working toward a Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering preferred)
  • An interest in product-based electromechanical systems
  • Passion for manufacturing and continuous improvement
  • A sharp analytical and mechanical mindset with a desire to apply them toward real-world manufacturing problems 
  • A willingness to work and communicate with contract manufacturers and suppliers
  • Some exposure to Solidworks, 3D modeling of tooling and fixtures, interpretation of detailed engineering drawings, and GD&T
  • Experience with change control systems (EPDM, Github, ERP, and PLM systems) is a plus
  • Skills to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production assembly/test problems
  • Conduct time studies to create baselines and identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost savings
  • Knowledge of production best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - can convey complex technical topics in simple terms across internal departments and external partners
  • Not afraid to challenge the status quo and regularly offers your ideas
  • Comfortable with issue escalation when appropriate
  • An extremely motivated and organized individual who can be self-directed in both team-based and individual settings
  • Works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
