Job Description:

The Hot Section Engineering CMC Acceleration Team is currently looking for highly motivated Durability Engineers to join the team. You will have demonstrated expertise in performing heat transfer, fluid flow, CFD and optimization analyses. Additional responsibilities will include mission life and validation analyses.

CMC Acceleration Team Durability Engineers are responsible for developing and implementing the analysis of oxidation, spallation, and creep life of CMC components to enable broad design exploration for the study of various CMC designs and architectures. Technical assessments and analyses of other life limiting mechanisms will be necessary to support the Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). The Durability Engineer's ability to solve technical problems quickly, offer design options, and demonstrate design sensitivities through analysis will be integral to the success of team.

• Durability Engineers get to provide immediate feedback on the design and cooling configurations of components, starting with concept initiation/optimization, enhancing their own skills while also learning from other disciplines.
• A core function of all Durability Engineers is to participate on an IPT, collaborating with multiple disciplines to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for structures, performance, cost and weight while advancing the state of CMC technology.

This is an Onsite role

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years of practical experience in an engineering field or 3+ years with an Master's degree or 1+ years with PHD
  • US Citizenship required due to government contracts


Preferred:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Active security clearance preferred
  • Knowledge of Ceramic Matrix Composite materials
  • Experience in Turbine Durability, Heat Transfer, or computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis, material science, structures, lifecycle/lifing or Wiebull Analysis
  • Turbine airfoil design
  • Knowledge of airfoil lifing failure modes and mission life modeling for typical airfoil limiting modes such as oxidation, creep, corrosion, and TMF
  • Proven experience in leading airfoil failure/root cause investigations.
  • Strong engineering problem solving skills
  • A desire to lead and enable transformation within the organization
