Elastic Cloud needs more awesome SREs to help automate the operations and infrastructure needed to meet its fast-growing demand. As part of the Cloud Engineering team, Cloud Infrastructure SREs ensure our Infrastructure-as-Configuration (IaC) is up to the task for running our massively scaled, homogeneous architecture deployed across multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSPs). This includes expanding into new regions, deploying infrastructure to support new applications and functionality, capacity management, evolving existing infrastructure to demonstrate new CSP offerings, and simplifying the management of thousands of hosts distributed globally. With so much infrastructure spread all over the world, we need help building excellent automation and processes to keep it all under control. That's where you come in!

What You Will Be Doing:

  • In this role you will:

    • Deliver cloud infrastructure across multiple Cloud Service Providers that power Elastic Cloud using technologies like Terraform, Ansible, and Rundeck.
    • Engineer our way out of toil, human error, and other burdens using Golang, Python, and/or bash that prevent us from being effective and efficient. 
    • Identify and solve problems with our processes, automation, tooling, and documentation.
    • Collaborate with other engineers to determine the right solution to a problem and see it through to completion.
    • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation using a follow-the-sun model.

What You Bring Along:

You don't need to have all of these items, but these represent the types of work you will do as a member of the Cloud Infrastructure team.

  • Proficient in designing and implementing software with any programming language.
  • Proficient with Linux and understands how to debug problems with services, networking, and the operating system itself.
  • Cloud Native Applications isn’t just a buzzword to you.
  • Experience working with hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of hosts distributed across the globe and you have stories to tell about the challenges and tribulations you encountered.
  • Comfortable with compute, networking, and storage of at least one of the following Cloud Service Providers: AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM .
  • You dream of Terraform and understand it very well.
  • Proficient in Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack, or similar. You can tell us how awesome Configuration as Code can be sometimes. You can also tell us how not awesome it can be sometimes.
  • You can talk about the deep rabbit holes you’ve jumped down working with containers and you understand their value, limitations, and troubleshooting characteristics.

Bonus Points:

These will help you hit the ground running, but they aren’t required to get started as a great team member.

  • Expert in designing and implementing software with Golang.
  • Have operated a SaaS product in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, or IBM preferred).
  • Designed, implemented, diagnosed, and/or resolved issues with the Elastic Stack.
  • Worked on projects using GitHub for version control and/or you’ve tracked work using GitHub Issues.
  • Experienced in contributing in a distributed, self-organizing, and collaborative team environment.
  • Have mentored, coached, and grown team members to bring out the best in them.
