Cloud Engineer
GDIT is seeking a Cloud Engineer to join its Intelligence and Homeland Security (IHS) Group. In this role you will work with a team of diverse architects and engineers with backgrounds in PaaS, DevOps, Security, and IaaS operations in order to spread knowledge and practices. You will be responsible for the engineering and life-cycle management of, mostly cloud-based, platforms to attain a high degree of reliability and security. The qualified candidate will perform the following tasks:
• Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.• Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.• Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives.• Experience driving discussions with senior government personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation• Provides oversight of the cloud production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health.• Develops architecture and solutions focusing on scalability and extensibility• Interfaces with DHS engineers/architects regarding architecture standards/guidelines/policies based on needs and anticipated technology advances• Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications.• Improve reliability, quality, performance for cloud-hosted applications.• Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve services.• Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large, distributed software applications.• Experience aligning strategic business and technological goals with capabilities and services articulated through business processes and supported through technology solutions.• Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.• Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.• Coordinates with Cloud providers for issues and support requests.• Uses exceptional written and verbal communication skills to interact regularly with high-level customers and other industry representatives to ensure conformance to customer requirements.• Experience driving discussions with senior government personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and business owners to provide guidance and recommendations on improving IT infrastructure • A proactive approach to identifying issues and problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks along with an ability to offer and implement solutions to address these.• Experience working within the federal government or serving federal government clients on Agile-based development contracts
