Job Summary
Responsible for planning and designing new software and web applications. Analyzes, tests and assists with the integration of new applications. Comcast shapes the future at the intersection of media and technology. Comcast's DevX organization is seeking a Cloud Engineer, Software Development & Engineering to join our Application Tools and Platforms team. This group is responsible for developing tools and platforms that are used by engineering teams across CXT to enhance customer experiences of our xFi (broadband) , Entertainment , AI and Xfinity Home Security product offerings. We are a team of Devops engineers that have a mix of responsibilities to create tools and platform services on one hand and on the other hand provide 24/7 support for the services we develop.

Examples of the initiatives supported include developing an experimentation platform that facilitates feature flagging for applications and services. We've developed a multiplatform API Gateway & Service Mesh to create a consistent platform for modern application communication and networking, L7 traffic management and service-to-service encryption. We have built an automated application test framework for E2E feature testing. Our team has managed an observability platform that provides visibility into system and application metrics and tracing. We have developed a log and events platform for all client and backend applications. In addition, we have supported cost optimization of services running in public/private cloud environments.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Partner with technical leads on each of the platforms to understand the feature requirements and deliver the features
  • Perform Code reviews, work with technical resources and assist with building proof-of-concept systems or conducting exploratory experiments with modern technology.
  • Promote the platforms we develop by collaborating with engineers on other teams and providing first class onboarding experience
  • Support with documenting processes and handling the documentation for the platforms
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.



Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in software development
  • Broad technical proficiency, with exposure to Agile (Scrum) project methodology and practices
  • Ability to lead rapidly shifting priorities and dependencies
  • Hands-on technical experience in Linux environments
  • Ability and readiness to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Take high-level design decisions from the team and turn them into a reality that solves customer issues
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment and partner with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively articulate technology concepts to both business and technical audiences
  • Proven track record in quickly understanding business requirements, and proposing reference architectures, and possible technology solutions. Must be capable of presenting options and weighing implementation



Technical Competencies:

  • Proven scripting & development language (e.g., bash, Go, Python, etc.)
  • Experience with automation software using Ansible, HashiCorp stack, and Python
  • Experience with monitoring systems (e.g. Grafana/InfluxDB, Nagios, Datadog, CloudWatch, New Relic, etc.)
  • Experience building tools for automation (building, testing, releasing, monitoring, and alarming)
  • Experience with IaaS and PaaS providers such as AWS, OpenStack, VMWare, etc.
  • Proficient in Linux command Line, System Administration and good hands-on installing software on Linux platforms
  • Understanding of container technologies like Docker, Fargate, ECS, or Kubernetes. Hands-on experience with building and running containers on one of these platforms is a plus
  • Some networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, Firewalls, traffic shaping, and load balancing)
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Jenkins, Concourse, etc.
  • Experience with deploying and operating infrastructure running microservices-based platforms
