The Development Engineer II will be a member of a team responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining virtualization infrastructure and its related solutions and processes that enable the development and delivery of Adtran software products. In this role, the engineer will be expected to work with other engineers to develop software to improve and evolve the company's internal and public cloud implementations and drive improvements in efficiency, performance, and reliability. Requires the ability to perform Software Development and Engineering tasks for projects of moderate complexity with limited direction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and improve systems and components to monitor and manage on-premise and public cloud infrastructure to allow the team to anticipate and correct issues.
  • Develop tools and systems to allow cloud service users to access and perform certain levels of administrative and management functions within defined domains.
  • Work with team to deploy and test incremental updates and new feature releases to systems in internal and public cloud infrastructure.
  • Improve deployment processes by developing automation, tooling, and documentation in accordance with best practices.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical individuals who maintain CI / CD pipelines that utilize the infrastructure supported by the team.
  • Analyze currently used technologies and processes and develop plans and procedures to improve and expand upon them.
  • Organize and coordinate development activities within schedule and product constraints.
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company.


  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Science, Information Technology, or equivalent education required.
  • 3-5 years of development experience is required.
  • Strong software development skills including debugging, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
  • Experience with coding and scripting in Bash, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience with source code management tools and best practices (GitHub).
  • Experience with Linux system administration.
  • Knowledge of containerization and virtualization technologies (Docker, Openstack, VMware, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with databases (Postgres, MongoDB, or similar)
  • Strong communications skills and a good understanding of customer service.
  • No travel is expected in this position.


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of networking technologies (DHCP, DNS, TCP, routing, switching).
  • Experience with public cloud technologies such as AWS.
  • Experience with configuration management systems such as Ansible, Terraform
  • Experience with Security technologies (TLS, SSL, PKI, X.509)
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes.
  • Understanding of general DevOps principles.
