SmartFinancial is a leading insurance technology company working on building tools to make the insurance shopping process better, simpler, and more effective. We are experiencing exponential growth so we are looking for a highly skilled CTO to help us maintain our growth by providing strategic technical leadership.

The CTO will have extensive technical knowledge, while also being an exceptional communicator and team builder. As CTO, they must rally the engineering team towards long-term technical goals, inspire new engineers to join the organization and help in the sourcing and identification of talent. In addition, they're responsible for setting and maintaining the technical culture to make sure the company can continue to retain and attract top technical talent to achieve the organization's long term objectives. 

We are seeking a determined technology leader, who is experienced in leading and managing the creation of best-in-class digital products and is not deterred in the face of challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage, develop, articulate and continually evolve the company’s strategic technical direction to ensure alignment with our business goals.
  • Responsible for making sure the company continues to have the best technology offering in a highly competitive and constantly evolving industry.
  • Develop strategic plans and set timelines for development, and deployment of all new products, web and mobile services.
  • Research and provide alternatives to existing development practices, tools, etc.
  • Ensure all technology and cyber security standards and best practices are met.
  • Monitor system infrastructure, web analytics and make recommendations that align with business goals.
  • Deploy and implement a disaster recovery plan in the event of a breach.
  • Establish software development processes and set objectives for the process.
  • Help hire, manage and mentor top technical talent.
  • Create a timeline for development and deployment of new products and technology services.
  • Ensure the company’s technological processes and service comply with all requirements, laws, and regulations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; (Master’s degree in information technology or a technology-related discipline preferred)
  • Excellent leadership, team building, and management skills
  • 7+ years successful experience leading development of software
  • Strong track record of leading teams and working well internally (including across groups) and externally with partners, customers and other stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of agile product development methodology

  • Language/Frameworks: Ruby on Rails, Ruby, JavaScript, Node, Angular
  • Testing: RSpec, Capybara, Jasmine
  • Database: MySQL, Redis, Mongo
  • OS: Linux, Bash, MacOS
  • Utility: Git, AWS
  • Front-End: Bootstrap, CSS, HTML5
  • DevOps: Ansible, Chef, Jenkins; we wear many hats so if you’re comfortable with provisioning servers and being in a shell environment you’ll have an extra edge.
