Description
Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired

  • This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week


The Role
The Chassis Controls Domain Architect Role represents a challenging leadership position within Electrical Controls Division related to the development and launch of electrical architecture solutions. This position is responsible for creating, communicating , managing various types of subsystems integration. The role contains a high level of responsibility with limited formal authority, providing excellent opportunities for developing and honing the skill of influencing others. In addition, these positions include a high level of written and oral communication with higher levels of leadership such as directors and executives.
Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the electrical system design execution over Chassis Controls Domain to support multiple product variants within multiple model years and multiple programs .
  • Execute the evaluation of partitioning topology) scenarios and ultimately establish the design direction for the functions set within the family of Global Electrical Architectures.
  • Ensure the Advanced Driver Assistance Subsystems functions and interfaces are defined and designed in adherence to engineering standard work for the purpose of on-time high quality delivery of GM Electrical Architecture Core .
  • Act as a product manager and primary interface with customers (e.g. Subsystems Engineers , Network Design Engineers and Software Engineers) and development partners (e.g. calibration teams, validation teams, or suppliers) over the Architecture Artifacts; includes tracking and reporting status of deliverables.
  • Oversee and approve creation of physical and logical interface design artifacts mechanizations that capture the established direction. Participate in creation of these artifacts as needed to maintain established timelines.
  • Drive alignment and ensure compliance with established Electrical Architecture core technical strategies for solutions managed by the global component stakeholders within the Domain area
  • Identify opportunities to further optimize the system by repartitioning controls across organizational or otherwise conventional boundaries.
  • Drive discussions to challenge necessary paradigms and develop business cases for realization where appropriate.

  • Lead and support continuous process improvements, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provides technical leadership ensuring issue resolution and appropriate technical direction for artifacts of responsibility.
  • Train, coach, mentor other team members in areas of strong competency.


Additional Description
Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), Math, Physics, or Computer Science
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field: Chassis System Engineering embedded controls (Brakes/Suspension/Steering/ Driveline) development and Electrical Controls Integration (architecture diagrams, designs, and implementation plans) leading or collaborating with subsystem and component
  • Strong understanding of key imperatives, hardware / software implementation complexities, and integration challenges related to Electrical Architecture decisions
  • Ability to lead global cross-functional teams and organize complex information within softly defined boundaries
  • Ability to drive towards decisions and gain consensus as needed to maintain development schedules
  • Strong awareness of automotive industry trends for Electrical System design
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills
  • Communicating Powerfully and Prolifically including a high level of oral and written communication skills
  • Solves Problems and Analyzes Issues particularly where the problems are unusual and complex
  • Dealing with Ambiguity
