CAE Optimization Engineer -Advanced Method Development - (CAE)
Description
Hybrid work position: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.
GM's Vehicle Optimization team inside the CAE organization is tasked to deliver innovative and world class solutions to complex optimization problems in the advance vehicle, powertrain, and electrical battery development stages.
As an expert in analytical tools, the CAE Optimization Engineer plays a central role in leading the design and improving the system and component performances using the latest optimization and Machine Learning technologies. We seek experienced individuals ready to rise to the challenge!

Responsibilities:
- Develop and use advanced CAE optimization process and tools to improve physical performances in vehicle and powertrain structure, NVH, crashworthiness, aero/thermal, dynamics, electro-magnetic, electro-chemical and energy systems and components.
- Develop, pilot and deploy the latest multi-disciplinary optimization MDO, stochastic/robustness methods and Machine Learning tools
- Apply advanced linear or nonlinear optimization processes and tools for topology, shape, weld/adhesive, gauge, light-weight materials to optimize designs, meet performance targets and minimize mass/cost.
- Execute and support the Program Optimization Management System in the developmental phase of vehicle, powertrain and electrification programs
- Create technical innovations in optimization through GM Optimization Focus Group sponsored advanced capability development projects; stay abreast of innovations in latest optimization technology.
Additional Description
Qualifications:
- In depth knowledge and 5 year+ experience in CAE and optimization, could include both industry and/or advanced research experience.
- Knowledge in advanced optimization and Machine Learning methodologies and tools a plus
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
- High ability to multi-task on different programs and projects
- Experience in one or more CAE related tools such as: HyperMesh, OptiStruct, Abaqus, Dyna, ADAMS or similar
- Knowledge and experience in Optimization tools: Genesis, OptiStruct, iSIGHT/ModeFrontier or similar
- Experience in CAE morphing and parametric tools, such as DEP/Meshworks, ANSA and Hypermorph or similar preferred
Education:
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Statistic/Data Analytics required
- Ph.D preferred
