Backend Engineer (Product)
Have you ever sent an IT ticket to Apple, asking to download, say, Netflix? No, because the Apple App Store gives you the power to download apps yourself. Now, imagine Apple would auto-unsubscribe your account when you stop using Netflix to save you money. Or, they would ask you to deactivate location-sharing if Netflix continuously used it in the background for no good reason, protecting your privacy. π€Β
πͺ Thatβs what Lumos does for enterprises. Lumos is the first AppsStore for Companies. You go to the Lumos AppStore, request an app, say GitHub, pick the repositories you need, your manager approves the request through Slack, and Lumos creates access to GitHub β instantly. Plus, IT and Security love it as well. They can configure Lumos to grant access to, say AWS Admin rights, for only a limited time or remove access when you stop using the app or change your role inside the company.Β
On our path to create the Enterprise AppStore, we have reached an inflection point: Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) backed us, our team has grown to ~35 people, we have recently launch out of stealth and are exponentially growing our customer base. π
As a backend product engineer, you'll design, build, and own critical product features. You will be able to work across different product verticals, focusing on areas you are most excited about and that bring value to customers. Further, beyond your technical work, you will have significant growth opportunities early-on as we rapidly scale our engineering team. You'll be involved in scaling not just our technical system and product, but the team and company as well! π
β¨ Your Responsibilities
- Tackle product and platform engineering challenges across our product to develop customer-facing functionality. Help us scale to 10x our number of customers and expand into brand new product verticals.
- Ship exciting new features, optimize our backend platform, and drive end-to-end development as you collaborate closely with product and fellow fullstack product engineers. Iterate on product requirements, user stories, technical subsystems and oversee your features through launch.
- Scale the engineering team! Drive adoption of paradigms and technology to continually improve the quality of our codebase and product. Interview candidates and help with engineering recruiting as we rapidly grow. Define new engineering processes to accelerate our growth, improve team organization, and support your teammates. π
β° Your Skills
- Backend software engineering. You love building software systems and optimizing them. You have solid software engineering fundamentals, and enjoy thinking about clean software principles, layered abstractions, testing, and complexity tradeoffs. Itβs a plus if youβre familiar with Python, GraphQL, Terraform, AWS, Flask, and SQLAlchemy.
- Product-minded. You understand that what you build is meant to support underlying product and business goals. Your technical decision making is deeply informed by the relevant product context and customer needs. You are passionate about solving customer problems and know how to navigate questions about speed versus quality.
- Designing scalable systems. You are comfortable building and managing the complexity of rapidly-growing systems. You enjoy designing robust systems and preparing them for 100x scale.
- Backend Breadth. You are familiar with a range of engineering tools and patterns, such as observability, authentication and authorization, databases, microservices, and workflow engines.
π What We Value
We care much more about your motivation and ability to help us accelerate technical progress than we care just about your CV. Instead of focusing on what people need to have, we focus on what people need to do. Additionally, we try to find out whether you would be a good fit for Lumos based on our valuesΒ that define how we achieve outcomes and what characteristics we value.
We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. π€²
Thank you for considering us - we're flattered! π π
