As a Back End Developer (Sr Specialist, Applications Development), you are responsible for technical leadership regarding the Petfinder platform. Focused primarily on backend service development, this role will be responsible for guidance and leadership for the third-party agency partner, ensuring quality and consistent development. Design and implement Java applications and services that fulfill business requirements

  • Hands-on developer with the ability to write high-quality, secure code that is modular, functional, and testable Communicate with end-users to determine their needs
  • Test completed software and debug as necessary Examine existing code and recommend patches, design overhauls or fixes for broken code
  • Design and implement roadmap components of the Petfinder data platform architecture Develop and implement internal systems, processes, and best practices to be used by other teams designed to increase productivity
  • Participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security, and high availability in the cloud
  • Lead explorations of new technologies and approaches through well-scoped and timeboxed proof of concept projects
  • Collaborate with product leads, business stakeholders and other engineering teams to plan work and maintain a cohesive plan for the platform
  • Participate in Agile engineering activities, including but not limited to daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Ensure all platform components meet proper performance and capacity standards.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and respond to after-hours escalations.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience working as a Java developer OR High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience working as a Java developer required
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies including Scrum and/or Kanban required
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform preferred
