Avionics Service Engineering ManagerCompany:The Boeing CompanyJob ID:00000288246Date Posted:2021-12-07-08:00Location:USA - Seal Beach, CAJob Description Qualifications:The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Customer Support - Systems Service Engineering Team is seeking a First Level Avionics Service Engineering Manager to lead the Auto-Flight, Flight Management Systems (FMS), and Air Data & Inertial Reference Systems (ADIRS) Service Engineering Team, responsible for in-service technical support on all in-production and out-of-production Boeing Commercial Aircraft models in Seal Beach, CA.This Avionics Service Engineering Team is responsible for support of the systems that include:1) Autoflight/Autothrottle System: Autopilot/Flight Director Systems (ADFS), Autothrottle/Thrust Management Systems, Speed/Mach Trim Systems, Stall Warning Systems, Weight & Balance Computing;2) Flight Management System: CPDCL/Datalink, Navigation, Guidance, Performance, Flight Planning, Thrust Management; and3) Air Data & Inertial Reference System: Air Data Systems, IRS/Earth Reference Systems (ERS), Pitot-Static System, Other Sensors (including Anti-Ice Systems) for all aircraft models.This team develops and maintains relationship and partnership with customers, suppliers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. This is a fast paced position that requires quick reactions, resilience, and adaptability. As the Leader of this team, you will provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes; and manage, develop and motivate employees. The position will require some travel to integrate with program leaders, customers, suppliers and other organizations.You will be an integral part of the BCA Customer Support team and Avionics, Electrical, and Flight Controls Systems SE Organization. Our organization is responsible for resolving in-service issues related to all Avionics (including Network, Recording, Displays, Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance), Electrical Power and Lighting Systems, and Mechanical Flight Controls & Proximity Sensing Systems for all aircraft models.This position requires flexibility to support emergent issues and important Airline Customer meetings off-hours and may require occasional off-shift work to support the 24x7 operation of the fleet.Based on the overall strengths and experiences of the selected applicant, the specific management responsibilities may change to manage another area of the Avionics, Electrical and Flight Controls Systems Service Engineering Organization.Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads execution of Engineering activities to ensure first time quality and on-time performance.
  • Responsible for execution of service engineering and solutions by supplier and other Boeing organizations, including the Boeing Design Center (Moscow/Kiev).
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees by modeling Boeing Values.
  • Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities.
  • Inspires employees by championing forward-thinking and innovative solutions.
  • Proactively communicates with employees, peers and customers. Keeps others informed by communicating project status, conducting and participating in team meetings, providing presentations and listening to employee concerns and suggestions.
  • Communicates policies and directives to enhance employee awareness of expectations.
  • Systematically evaluates proper job classification of employees, sets employee priorities, manages and evaluates performance to plan on a reoccurring basis.
  • Provides core competency on Avionics service engineering related to in-service issues and solves problems/issues for our customers on Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanentEmployer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working on commercial aircraft programs
  • 2+ years of experience leading an engineering team
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time
  • Ability to work and function in a 24x7 by 365 operational environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Service Engineering, Design Engineering, or Engineering Management experience related to Avionics or Electrical Systems, on commercial aircraft
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships/partnerships with airline customers, suppliers, stakeholders and partners
  • Experience in managing, developing, and motivating employees
