AV Advanced Camera Lab Performance Engineer
Description
We are looking for an expert Engineer to join our Advanced Camera Hardware team and help us build the best automated vehicles in the world.
Lead the development testing of camera components and modules for AV and ADAS features. Responsible for evaluation of designs, analysis, development, and testing of camera features and camera sensors as a part of development projects where creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. Exercises technical direction over engineering support personnel in testing of these camera components and modules. Capable of managing and leading numerous projects with high degree of difficulty. Exercises independent judgment, with minimal input from supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Tests AV and ADAS cameras and enabling technologies that will integrate into a targeted vehicle application
- Strong focus on camera technologies which includes imager, image signal processing (ISP), lens design, and packaging.
- Works closely with Research and Development, software developers, validation engineers, HMI engineers, network engineers and suppliers to develop components and systems to support functions and features.
- Support advance technical work that develops new technologies on camera and camera features.
- Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers.
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.
- Performs image quality testing and analysis (e.g., HDR, noise, color accuracy)
- Performs camera interface testing and analysis (e.g., communication, latency, FPS)
- Conducts advanced image sensor evaluations and benchmarking studies.
- Develops test tools (HW and SW), procedures for evaluating prospective imaging technologies.
- Integration and setup of new camera lab test equipment (e.g., charts, light sources, measurement devices)
- Maintains existing camera lab test equipment and instrumentation (e.g., calibration, software updates)
- Collaborates with Advanced Camera Technology Specialists on defining test metrics, pass/fail criteria, and test methodologies for various imaging technologies.
- Collaborates with Camera DREs and Performance Engineers to identify issues with production intent camera components (HW and FW)
- Documents performance analysis reports of various imaging technologies.
- Documents test procedures, best practice guides, and safe operating procedures for various lab tools and instruments.
Additional Description
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or Chemistry
- 2+ years of development and/or lab test experience of automotive camera systems
- Experience with GPU's, FPGA's, ASIC's, FPAs, ISPs, Lenses.
- Knowledge of machine learning and computer vision, Image de-warping and stitching
- Working Knowledge of Matlab/Python/C++ experience
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of computer/electrical mechanisms
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
- Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Specific knowledge of image processing, camera hardware, lens design, and associate design functions
- High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
Desired Skills
- Master's/PhD Degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of development and test experience of automotive camera systems
- Experience with the development of ADAS and AV camera components and systems highly preferred
- Automotive safety critical electronics experience
