The Automation Engineer is the technical lead for all automation and Smart Factory projects within the fuel nozzle business. The Automation Engineer works closely with manufacturing engineers & operations staff to identify automation opportunities & executes projects to increase capacity, productivity, & quality within fuel nozzle manufacturing operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Developing an automation project scope & project plan
  • Developing and presenting a business case to site Leadership and is accountable for achieving the planned return on investment
  • Automation project execution including installation, programming, validation, & release to production
  • Accountable for meeting project deliverables relative to cost, technical performance, quality & timing
  • Vendor/contractor management related to project planning & execution
  • Training operations and maintenance personnel for supporting and operating automation technology & automated processes
  • Work closely with maintenance & manufacturing engineers to troubleshoot & repair automation technology, automated equipment & cells
  • Responsible for continued learning of automation technologies & applications and awareness of the current state of the industry
  • Responsible for development of new technologies and/or novel uses of existing technologies to support the advancement of manufacturing processes
  • Actively participates & contributes to developing manufacturing plans for new product introduction with a focus on automation opportunities


Basic Qualifications:
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
  • Familiarity with mechanical and manufacturing engineering concepts
  • Working knowledge of one or more coding languages and practices (LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++, etc.)
  • Self-motivation, drive to learn, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with manufacturing in an Aerospace environment is strongly preferred
  • Experience with tool design & 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience with deep learning principles and software a huge plus
  • Working knowledge of drafting principles & GD&T
  • Working knowledge of ERP and MES systems (SAP preferred)
  • Working knowledge of robotic programming (FANUC, ABB, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of PLCs including programming & basic troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of vision and lighting systems including area scanners and non-contact inspection systems
  • Familiarity with device & equipment communication, networking & cell architecture
  • Familiarity with the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) assessment system
  • Familiarity with EOAT design & fabrication
  • Familiarity with project management principles
