The ITS-EPA4 Task 3 - Infrastructure Services group provides support of EPA Windows, Unix, VMware, and Cloud computing on hardware located primarily in NC and Colorado, with satellite data centers in multiple states, and tenants in Azure and AWS. The VMware vRealize Automation Engineer will be a key contributor role within the VMware Private Cloud Vertical.

The Automation Engineer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and continually improving orchestration blueprints and corresponding automation Web interfaces. The individual collaborates with each Infrastructure Services Group and its Development counterpart, Cloud Engineering, Active Directory and Identity Management, and the Networking and DNS Teams to establish automation standards and workflows which align with Enterprise Hosting guidelines and facilitate deliverables. This engineer will participate in research and design, establish technical guidelines, and implement the required technology for performing automated OS builds and application installs. Solutions must couple with related infrastructures and configuration lifecycle management platforms and both instantiate and decommission on-premise and Cloud instances.

Additional elements of this position will include:

  • Developing scripts in JAVA, PowerShell, YAML, etc
  • Developing automation integration with internal EPA systems via REST API, etc
  • Maintain existing automation code, perform modifications per new requirements
  • Promote new automation code releases from Developmentinto Production
  • Upgrade vRO/A as needed including relevant blueprint and code changes
  • Maintain a parallel vRO/A Development Infrastructure Instance
  • Provide backup support to vRealize Operations Manager including Modeling Reports


Required Qualifications

  • 7 Years Experience with VMware
  • 5 Years Experience with vRO/A 7.x - 8.x
  • General Windows Server and Linux OS proficiency
  • Development expertise in one of the Public Clouds (Azure, AWS)
  • Infrastructure As a Code (Ansible, Terraform)
  • DevOps CICD (GitLab, BitBucket, Jenkins, CodeStream)
  • VCP6-DCV Required (VCAP6.5-DCV Preferred)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Network Virtualization (VMWare NSX-V, NSX-T)
  • IPAM systems integration (Infoblox preferred)
  • Experience on a Government Contract
