Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Creates, evaluates and modifies prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses. Develops and applies software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. Provides product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. May produce specifications describing user requirements and internal structures for product in development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working under the direction of a Senior Human Factors Engineer, this individual will prepare study materials for usability tests, conduct formative and summative usability tests for medical devices and mobile device applications, analyze data, and compile results and findings for multidisciplinary teams of engineers, developers, clinicians, and executives.
  • Contribute to HFE documentation needed for creating Usability Engineering File for FDA and notifying body submissions.
  • Conduct Task Analyses, Usability Audits, Cognitive Walk-throughs, and other formative design and evaluation methods.
  • Make design recommendations based on usability standards and best practices.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews.



Required Qualifications:

  • 0 - 1 years of industry experience coordinating and conducting Usability Testing, including measurement of user performance, data analysis and reporting of results.
  • Experience in mobile application software design
  • Fluency with web and mobile standards and technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate actively and proactively with others in a cross-functional team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and as a presenter.
  • Self-motivated and self-managed with a high degree of analytical ability and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed (domestically and internationally), approximately 25% of the time.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with human factors processes and guidelines towards the development of medical devices (e.g. FDA guidance, IEC 62366, AAMI HE75).


Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or related discipline preferred

Functional/Business Knowledge:

  • Applies basic technical understanding with the knowledge to develop process and design experiments. Possesses theoretical knowledge, but is learning the industry and requirements of applied science. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies.



Scope:

  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency. Works on problems of basic scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of data factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.



Judgement:

  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Normally receives instructions on all work and work output it supervised.



Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 0-2 years related experience.



Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%



Workplace Type:

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
