The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Space and Launch Division is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer (Level 2) to join our team in Seal Beach, CA. Our Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
Position Overview:
The Associate Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to support multiple projects in a proprietary area. The efforts include understanding classical systems engineering requirements and interfaces. The path forward would include the adaptation of MBSE for the heritage systems, so this is a great opportunity to implement both aspects of systems definition. This role will include the ability to multitask within the organization, so working with subcontractors, and developing requirements with them. As the need arises, support to Integration and test could be required, as we verify performance.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain requirement and interface definition for complex ground systems.
  • Support Integration and test of these systems. This would include the need for understanding complex computing systems and Linux/Windows based software systems.
  • Grow into Project leadership roles to help with multiple simultaneous activities.
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.


Work Authorization:
This position requires an active/current U.S. Security Clearance with successful completion of a T5 Investigation / Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years or a Continuous Evaluation/Continuous Vetting program (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • Experience with Aerospace systems development.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with Doors and/or MBSE tools.
  • Experience with complex computing systems.


Typical Education/Experience:
Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience, Master's degree or PhD degree. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
