Assistant Manufacturing Integration Architect
Description
In this role, your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of body manufacturing capability, general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve product design/manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow to resolution.
Other responsibilities include:
- Assist the Manufacturing Integration Architect in the development and execution of New/Major programs, and/or own the execution of specific projects or annual program launches.
- Be the strong voice of manufacturing in the Advanced vehicle development product program forums
- Co- develop new vehicle Body Structure & Closure engineering solutions and Manufacturing Requirements for material choice, joint construction & joining method to meet performance and light-weighting targets (mixed steel/alum/composite, Alum casting, extrusion, stamping, hydro-form, carbon fiber, SMC, Diamond ply)
- Support development of mechanical joining & Weld process techniques (Self Pierce Rivet, Flow Drill Screw, Laser Weld, Spot Weld, Bonding, Structural Blind Rivet, Bolting, Alum Riv Nut/Stud, Alum Clinch Nut/Stud, Alum Drawn Arc Studs, manual application Alum Arc Weld and BA1 adhesive for Ultra Low Volume vehicles)
- Support and ensure compliance of manufacturing requirements production readiness and acceptance criteria for new/approved joining techniques
- Development & documenting Basic Policy direction in advance of new Manufacturing Requirements & Product Best Practices to support migration to vehicle mass reduction and new customer features. (Minimum of one new vehicle execution learning cycle prior to publishing MR/BP change)
- Connect with the assembly plant to develop and complete the plant preproduction budgets.
- Work closely with Engineering/PE/ME/Assembly Plants to ensure the issue resolution process is working optimally.
- Lead, support, conduct activities, and collect takeaways to validate new manufacturing requirements (MR's) thru Launch build events.
- Ensure inter and intra build-ability of new manufacturing techniques with conventional processes integrated to existing production infrastructure
- Work may involve development and testing of sophisticated process technology.
Additional Description Basic Required:
- Knowledge of General Motors body structures/closures manufacturing systems.
- Comfortable knowledge of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong teams and work multi-functionally.
- Key competencies skills include Command Skills, Decision quality, dealing with ambiguity, timely decision making, Intellectual Horsepower, Learning on the fly, and a dedication to results.
- Some travel required based on program/position, travel can be domestic or international.
Basic Preferred:
- Assembly Plant experience.
- Body Manufacturing Engineering systems, process, tooling, and operations experience.
- Product launch and/or project management experience.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
